[Agnostic thoughts] Is God's nature inherently evil?
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Evil is a human concept and god is a metaphysical imaginary friend with apparent powers beyond mortals, another human concept put on a pedestal no one can reach.
Asking an imaginary friend to end all the worlds wrongs and find out that nothing happens is exactly what will happen because it's your imaginary friend, not a powerful being looking down on all of us.

besides if 8 billion of us all worshipped this same imaginary entity and for the sake of the argument, god has real power to change things, god can only take requests from one or two people at a time while other believers are about to die elsewhere, so what does god do? being in two places at time implies more than one god in the mix and god can't be everywhere to do everything that that makes god less like a human in the works we believe it to be and more like a machine... or an alien.

hey, it's this type of larger than life nonsense found in those religious books for you, don't blame me for their overactive imagination coming up with that tripe.

Hm
I am not Christian or any other faith... but I understood it to be more a question of...

Do you wish to be a puppet in a world of puppets where no harm happens?
Or do you wish to have free will but so does everybody else and some choose to do harm?
The God told us its ideas on how best to live but it's up to us - no intervention (and that thought of no intervention also applies to when people pray asking for God to make this or that to happen etc)

...That was my understanding of the "Why would a good god allow evil to happen" thing

But there are a few different ideas about the nature of gods out there too so I think it depends which god thou art askingth abouteth

Disclaimer - I do not condone nor endorse gods nor do I deny them because ... well hey what if I actually DON'T know everything myself with my almighty opposable thumb

1. The problem with your statement is if we are discussing biblical God we can only look at text to see how this God acts. The old and new testament. The OT is filled with horrible acts that God condones. Slavery, genocide, bashing babies on rocks, stoning children if they misbehave, etc. The NT doesn't fare much better. Slavery, hating on loves ones to be Jesus disciple, and burning forever horrible just because you don;t believe, or weren't born into a society, culture that didn't know about the biblical God. Also, all that horrible stuff in the OT was supposedly Jesus, because he is supposedly God. He never changes. And, he even states on the sermon on the mount that "not one jot or one tittle shall in any wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled." So, he was OK with genocide, rape, harming of children, etc. Biblical God is a monster...

2. The idea of free will is debatable, but new evidence that has emerged from neuroscience that humans don;t have as much free will as we think. That our environment plays a much larger role determining what we do and act.

3. I don't think God has said anything. I think its ancient men writing down that they had God speaking to them, but then again how would you prove that. Is the holy Quran the final message from God? How would we prove that to be the truth.

4. No one truly knows if there is some kind of deity out there. Maybe. Its currently unfalsifiable, and may never be proven true or false. What I do know is EVERY current religion is false, because they have failed to prove themselves. They haven't met the burden of proof. Take Christianity. Was there a Jesus? We can't really be sure because we have very little in the way of outside sources. Everyone on Jesus supposed miracle claims were not written by 2nd or 3rd sources. And so, you must rely solely on the bible, and that is a HUGE issue.

God follows reason
Why would an omnipotent being follow reason?
Because knowledge is an evidence.

This is actually a gnostic thought, as they believe the creator god was supplanted by a being called the demiurge who's job was to manifest reality but it became corrupted.
The Epicurus paradox, is often used in discussions by atheists, agnostics, and skeptics to challenge the logical consistency of theistic beliefs. But I doubt it has anything to do with gnostics. Maybe i am just mistaken.

that is why being agnostic makes a lot more sense. just to maintain neutral.

1. When I argue against the biblical God I use arguments like a) suffering and b) divine hiddence. As someone whose traveled and lived around Asia, specifically Thailand and Cambodia which is about 99% Buddhist, divine hiddence is a HUGE one for me that I've never heard any good answers. Zero. Also, suffering is another large issue for me. Over 30,000 people pass away horribly every day from mass starvation, lack of clean water and disease. 10,000 plus being children. EVERY DAY!

2. And so, if this God created a world with immense suffering he or she isn't such a good loving God to begin with. These are all natural issues that God supposedly could fix, but does nothing. And yet, he helps Aunt June find her car keys, and uncle John with his cancer. But ignores the plight of young children. Its so easy to think that a God loves you when you live in the West. But imagine living in a dirty hut where misquotes are biting your dying baby with a bloated stomach because they hadn't eaten in a month, while you cry out for Jesus to saved your child.

And yet nothing.....
