Most stuff is using HTML 5 these days. There are some huge downloads of flash games you can find if you Google around for it that let you play them locally, should be able to find almost all the popular ones.

As for newgrounds and decades of flash treasures that need preserving, efforts are underway to build browser-based emulators, and there's standalone stuff like http://www.swffileplayer.com/

in technology terms it means they're preparing to abandon it

Just download a copy of flash to a thumb drive and install it when you need to play a flash game problem solved.

Ehh I wouldn’t freak out to much over this as I’m sure new grounds and other flash websites will be able to figure out a new way to revive these flash games who knows we will just have to see.

Theres a thing called Flashpoint[bluemaxima.org], basically a giant repository of a large amount of flash stuff to preserve it. You could use that to continue enjoying it.
