Bitcoin is failing because they've removed the Greek meaning of 'hidden' from 'crypto'. In doing this, I feel that they're doing everyone a service—we ought to be encouraging a more productively secretive currency like Monero, as, after-all, the whole point of cryptocurrency is to be a private affair that is ideally used through private exchanges.

My thoughts on the whole cryptocurrency situation in terms of strictly investing that it couldn't be a bigger waste of money for something that 99% of services are not going to accept as worthwhile tender in exchange for the more centralised currency that society already has. If you want to gamble with your dosh then contact a broker and invest in the stock-market—at least you 'might' get something back other than debt.

The purpose was decentralising the control over currency - no one can just "print more coins" like the central banks can with fiat money. Privacy is and was not the primary concern - the original Bitcoin ledger is completely public, as is with most crypto.

Good. Perhaps the stupid black market currency scam can now disappear and we can buy graphics cards at nearly sensible prices again.

Cryptocurrencies thus far has been too volatile to be legal tender and not anonymous enough to replace cash. Governments really start liking crypto like Bitcoin and start riding the crypto-hype-train since they've figured out how to track transactions. For now, I will care about crypto as much as I care about tulips.
Yes, there may be exceptions like Monero, which is designed to loose value over time to prevent speculation and is much more anonymous than others, which makes it a much better alternative for one-time cash-like value transfers. Unfortunately, it's a pain to get a hold off since banks and major exchanges don't like it, rendering it almost worthless in everyday life since most clean places that accept crypto like Bitcoin and Ethereum don't accept Monero for these reasons. I yet have to find a trustworthy place to exchange legal tender into Monero directly. I don't like feeling like a criminal when buying internet cash.
