back when long nails since women would gather men would hunt would be useful for grabbing stuff.
Also during the medieval era it was a sign of high class / nobility since in reality nobles were lazy ♥♥♥♥♥ who didn't lift a finger so having long nails = being rich enough to be lazy.
Imo there are a couple of good benefits to having nails. More so opening things that require a bit of lift (that can also break them). Any manual hard labor though yeah. Best keep your feet painted and long nails but not on your hands.
There are many poor women wearing them. Comfort? Maybe. Rich life? Not at all.
