So wait is it illegal or legal to post factual information about the ukraine’s fails online? Only if you’re not russian? Or you have to type it yourself and not use a markov bot?

There is a Kremlin disinformation campaign which is even Russian government backed. Putin uses it to shape news not only to his own Russian citizens but also spew disinformation out to the world, specially around America, the invasion of Ukraine, Covid misinformation and also to promote Donald Trump.

It's been known since before 2016.

When the actual population already act like bots it all appear indistinguishable and i'm mostly saying this to come back at a certain someone. You're on the line if you post stuff and they find out not matter what apparently.

I edited my post during your reply, could you clarify if you meant on the Steam forum or rather in games? Also, why would I ignore it?
The games. Tf2, CS2, and ive heard DOTA 2, Lfd 1/2(although i dont play DOTA 2), have had rampant bot attacks of the years, TF2 has arguably taken the brunt of this.
The forums might have bots, but users posting scam links or advertisements usually get banned pretty quick, so i dont scammers bother with that, rather have bots DM people scam links.

Fair enough, I will agree that some of those multiplayer online games are riddled in bots and paid-for smurf accounts. I was previously referring to just on the Steam forums.

No even here.
I think it was mostly China bot attacks of basically spam in Chinese.

The "post waiting for analysis" thing started a couple of years back to combat this.

It really is bad it is just being dealt with so well we don't really notice!

Artificial Intelligence doesn't actually exist and is more just a sci-fi term we tend to use, due to movies, etc.

Really it's "Automated Intelligence" and "Automated Stupidity"

It comes down to the programmer's own intelligence and the data set information it has been fed. It may run through thousands of various scenarios and give you the best one, but it's still limited to those two things. Faking the human response.

AI is not sentient. Yet if that ever comes around in technology, which we don't have to date, it won't even be called AI, but rather AC (Artificial Consciousness).

Google translate and soon chatgpt is their way around this. Besides they wouldn't post in Mandarin when they are trying to convince non-chinese about their scripted piece

Anyone remember the scandal where Twitter was justifying deleting the accounts of actual Americans during the 2016 campaign by claiming they were Russian bots?

No it was just people with phishing links and stuff like that.

Thing is they have been pushed down so much there they only have each other to tear at to get above the rest. This has made them hyper competitive compared to the rest of the world.

This is why places like steam have a China branch and many of those RPG games with economies are run like sweatshops... trained to take any advantage and lever it against each other and anyone else they can reach.

It isn't political as far as I know, from my understanding it is just the norm there.

It wasn't a scandal, yes I'm quite aware of thousands of bot accounts which had to be terminated...

Russian bot farms more truthy than U.S. bot farms.

The U.S. bot farms was under Turning Point USA project called "Rally Forge", created by Charlie Kirk (co-working with TrumpJR), in which they didn't use AI chatbots but rather recruited American teenagers (mostly from Arizona) as a "troll farm" to create fake account profiles on xTwitter, Instagram, and Facebook to promote Trump and also spew disinformation into America.

It was shutdown too back in 2020.

ps: Rally Forge received $1,192,832 to advertise pro-Trump, in which their ads where suspended and then their troll farm terminated. I sure hope those teenagers creating fake accounts got that million to do that? Nope...

What they don't tell you is that it's not just Twitter.
That's one of the many examples of "local" bot campaings, another one would be like "heart & minds" from the Middle East wars for """WMD's""" and stuff, before that during the Cold War were mostly coup d'etat to anything left leaning...

Or how the US govt spread misinformation & conspiracy theories about vaccines or how the CIA created vaccine hesitancy in Pakistan, etc...

Amid the pandemic, the Pentagon ran a conspiracy campaign to discredit vaccines—just so it could score points against China. The revelation is a worst-case scenario for global public health"

But alas nuclear countries spamming the internet it's quite old news, and with AI tech around is just going to get even worse, c'est la vie ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The misinformation & disinformation rabbit hole of the nuclear countries and their lies is like an eternal abyss.

Elon Musk had previously complained about bots on Twitter, demanded a lower price for it and then claimed he would crack down on those bots. Yet in reality, bot activity greatly increased since his takeover.

During your US Superbowl, bot activity via xTwitter surged so much that 75.85% of all the traffic and clicks going to advertisers for Superbowl where bots. That's a world record for any website. More bots than actual humans!

Now Elon Musk attempts to mask and hide those activities, plus demands payment to use the xTwitter API to even track and monitor, yet those stats where taken from thousands of websites paying for that advertising, monitoring the track flow coming in from xTwitter.

To give you a comparison, those very same website also monitored the traffic ad flow from other social media platforms at the very same time, which had 2.8% bot traffic from TikTok, 2% bot traffic from Facebook and 0.96% bot traffic from Instagram.
i could give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about elon or twitter
you could?
