Anyways, AC:Shadows is a little bit of a novelty with Yasuke, sure, but there's nothing wrong with that.

same in afro samurai, samurai champloo, beat takeshi's zatoichi, boondocks, and in off-brand yasuke appearances in other games, such as the climactic fight involving the yasuke character in way of the samurai.

It kinda is and kinda isn't? It's a weird mix but that's anime for you.

Anyways, you can just pretend you're playing Samurai Champloo or Afro Samurai whenever the battle music kicks in.

I think it's supposed to be set in a kind of post-apocalyptic Hyperspce, where warriors throughout time have washed up. kind of a non-temporal afterlife setting, I think.

also the seven samurai anime is set in feudal times. in the future.

asscreed's always been kind of ambiguous about when exactly the narrative is happening relative to our time. the existence of the apple kind of suggests the entire narrative and every character in it is set well after our timeperiod. or else in an ambiguous timespace, potentially our distant past.

we don't need our culture ruined with the nonsense from the west that has an addiction with making all characters ugly or black protagonists just to appear "friendly" to some butthurt minority groups
if you want to keep your characters ugly then keep it for your kinds of people
