Is it wrong to lie about myself to people online?

Does things like trust etc really matter online? Do I have to share for example the general country I live, my career choice, and personal hobbies?

I want to know if it is at least morally grey to lie or at least give partial truths to complete strangers or companions that happens to follow me in my gaming adventures.

you owe strangers on the internet nothing. if you want to open up, you're free to do so, and vice versa.

I dont know why he connects LYING with simply not disclosing private information. I mean, one can also just choose to not disclose anything without telling people fairy tales.

thats the point to cast doubt, whats real, whats not makes it harder for people to take advantage or misuse info. Heard me say I run 5 companies, true. I get 15k a month also true but only to a point its actually 20 but put 5 aside each month for my kids. Yes i do have 8 kids true, 5 ex wives also true, currently with 9 women somewhat true if you include people i dont want to be with physically but have to anyway. Flat truth a lough to most I live this luxurious life where money is not a problem, women not a problem life is poop to me. Ive got about 6 months left, nothing I can do about it. Who wants to live in such a depressing headspace. + multi personality disorder so different perspectives.

I think morally speaking. Its perfectly normal and good to NOT give away any of these details online.

But why do you have to lie about it ? You could just say you prefer not to say and be on the morally safe side.

Lying is never morally alright, especially not if you have a morally alright option.

Just be HONEST without disclosing private information. Simple.

More like partial truths like I say. Make things I do for a living for example sound less interesting or claim I live one country over where I actually live. After all I dont want people to pin point. And yes I dont givr out information but I tend to give partial truths to some of the more prying types. With some of the people I regularly talk to online, I would be afraid to tell them some of my deeper secrets.

You can do whatever you want but if you want the bonds to matter you should probably be truthful or at least refuse to answer. Lying is just going to leave you open to social issues later down the line if they're ever discovered.

Instead of lying just tell people you're not sharing certain information, if they're worth keeping around they won't take offense.

That's sort of a risky way of testing someone's trust.

You're supposed to develop that level of trust FIRST, before they could betray you, causing great personal harm...
