Why is STEAM overwhelmed with children's games now?
My discovery queue has been abysmal this year. 80% silly, cartoonish kiddie games that I have no interest in.

More bizarre is they are tagged as being "similar to Outlast, Resident Evil, Alien Isolation" etc What the actual ♥♥♥♥?

What changed this year?

Everybody likes Peppa Pig.
Adult games are allowed on Steam, so why not child games I guess.
Like I've posted in other threads, in the 70s and 80s games used to be for mostly a true general audience, mature grade schoolers to retirees. Whole families used to puzzle out text based or primiive graphics' games.

That changed in the late 80s and 90s when more and more teens and post grads were tinkering or toying with PCs and Apples.

Now games seem to be aimed at young audinces since the late 1990s or early 2000s.

There seems to be quite a few simulated PS1 and 8-Bit quality products coming out at the moment.
I also think the fact that majority of those games are made just young adults which grew up with cartoons and games than previous gen
Steam is just being flooded with llm shovelware in general.

Meaning what?

The games I reference were detecctive games, or fantasy games with adult content, or space combat games that had a strategy as well as a tactical component. The graphics didn't matter.

Before SimCity there was Moonbase by Broderbund. Before Alone in the Dark there was Murder By the Dozen. Before the Warcraft games there were various fantasy RISK like knockoffs. And there were games published by so called adult publishers.

The truth is young dollars dictate what gets made in mass media ... from comics to B-movie superhero films which are just undercover cop recruitment posters ... and they're aimed at really young kids too.

It's not the graphics, but the content.

At the very least any software using a llm-generated image as its front page image should be pulled. If you can't commission an artist for one image you probably haven't put enough work into a product to justify its sale.

Yes. They used to take it seriously because there were so many unfinished products on here.
