Do you think Gamers spend way too much money on Video-Games?
I have spent around 25$ dollars this summer sale and I think it's more than enough. I purchased a few games and I am satisfied. Yearly I'd say I spend 20$ to 50$ on videogames.

But I could NEVER imagine that much cash on purchasing ONE Video-Game. For me the ceiling is 20$ and I already think heavily whether the product is worth it if it's over 5$ bucks.

So I ask you a question: Where is YOUR thin red line? Where do you think it's all okay and normal and when it's just burning the green?

In my, humble opinion Gamers are incredibly irresponsible with their money and that is one of the causes why the gaming is normal. Because people buy ONE, one skin for 20$, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Fallout 76 has over 20 million players (I know some got the game freely/cheaply and I KNOW I BOUGHT THIS GAME IT WAS A MISTAKE I PURCHASED IT FOR 21,5$ DOLLARS I REGRET IT DEEPLY).

I think it is insane and Gamers should save more for houses and cars.

Yes

But if it makes them happy, who's to judge?

As for my thin red line...there isn't one. If I know I'll get use out of a game and will enjoy having it, then that's good enough for me. I'm not a collector, so I don't buy games that I know I'll never touch. I only buy what actually interests me.

30€. If a game costs more than that, no matter how much I want it, I'll wait for a sale.

I think devs inflate the prices to justify their stocks, and that if gamers spent less that sector of the economy would collapse and take others with it.

Then again if the devs stopped inflating they'd fall behind the other sectors that did.

I don't know.. it's taking me decades to accumulate what I have and if I totaled it all up, it's significantly less than most other hobbies would have cost me. I've had motorcycle projects cost more in a few months. But I don't buy new AAA stuff. I usually just get stuff when it's on some insane sale.

It depends on how much enjoyment I can derive from it.
If a game is worth $200 but I expect to play it for a long time, then I'd buy it.
For instance, I have stellaris with nearly all the DLC (Missing only 1 dlc)
But I have 1k hours on it, so I'd say it was worth it.

I think our society as a whole has become extremely consumeristic, if you consider that to be a word.

Growing up I was frequently taught to be thankful for what I have and to feel content with where I am at. In religious context, it was expressed as, “Don’t be materialistic.”

The fact that people have become so enamoured with buying new things constantly, even when they then go on to never use most of the things they purchase, says to me that a lot of people have either lost of this principle, or simply were never exposed to it.

It’s one thing to want to collect and own things. But it becomes a much different story when you can’t control that desire and are instead controlled by it.

$15 is my limit for the super duper deluxe GOTY directions edition. If not $5 is my average.

Last game I paid $40 for was RDR2 and that was a mistake because they refused to add content. Oh well lesson learned. Will never buy a $40 game ever in my entire life. cdkeys is life :steamhappy:

I think a fine rule is every ban, is 3 months where I don't buy any video games from the platform that banned me :lolFumi:

I haven't see much in ages I wanna buy. I mostly get dlcs for stuff i already got.

So far I am down to 0.45 cents per hour for Kerbal Space Program

That is 00.0045 USD per hour

I don't think any form of entertainment can beat that.

I think i spent way more on alcohol, even after quitting it for 10 years, than i have on games. lol.

its subjective, i'd say.

Even though I've had to buy minecraft a second time after migration STOLE my old account. Still, since I've played every year pretty much since alpha/beta. I got crazy value from it.

same with 7 days to die, I've had that game since its early versions, where it didn't even have random generation.

Two games I bought that were expensive but well worth the money :

Final Fantasy VII on the PSX. Very good return of investment for the time played and the storyline and entertainment value even if i spent untold hours on disc 1 trying to figure out how to progress. (the screen with road and stuff and it isnt clear you can sort of walk up a bit and then your on that bit that allows you to get into the other screen).

GTA Sand Andreas Full Priced brand new for the PS2. And to this day that game is one of my favourites and i wish they made more of it just like it with different scenarios / peoples.

Digital / pixels are important for people if they want to present themselves in new clothes / accessories through their avatars/ characters.
The expense is a reflection to some of them as the the point of that item.

I remember reading an article on second life i never played it but a person became a millionaire just from building houses on there for people.

it's more a problem of a lot of games being priced too high
