Edit: I may be the exception and not the rule.
That is more than even me. Albeit I have that hour count in Planet Zoo, EU4 and so forth.
If you include ♥♥♥♥ tests as a game, you are right.
Crackpot. This is you:
YOU: The sky is only one color--blue.
OPPONENT: It's not. It can be pink and purple during the dawn hours, or orange and red during the sunset. It is black during night hours.
YOU: But dawn and sunset are only 40 minutes, and I was talking about the sky during daylight.
OPPONENT: But it can be grey on overcast days. Overcast is daylight.
YOU: But it's only overcast maybe 20% of the time, so overcast doesn't count.
Point is, I'm not engaging with you anymore, because this isn't about you debating anyone. It's about you playing out an argument that you've been rehearsing in your mind for God knows how long, then rolling out whatever ridiculous counter-arguments you've practiced in these mental rehearsals of yours.
What makes this all the worse is that you think that finding random people like me to argue with is going to change anything. I don't work for the gaming industry or have any pull and neither do you, so what is the point in arguing to the death about any of this? It's why I walked away from this discussion a week or so ago. The first few days, it's just an interesting, rousing debate about the state of gaming and a way to learn about other people's viewpoints. Any longer than that, then it's just crackpots demanding to have their views validated or having a Fight Club/Narrator moment, where they just don't understand that arguing with and hating people in real life is not going to change the thing they want to change in the real world.
Becoming increasingly contrarian, accusing me of lying about GenX, all this other insanity you're displaying is not going to change anything about what you hate about gaming, because I don't work for the industry. Do you understand that?
So I'm done here. If anyone else values their time, they'll just quit this thread. Life is too short to argue with someone who clearly has issues.
You underestimate how many females play casually and that is the biggest mainstream.
Most gamers play on mobile and tablet, after that you have console and PC is the lowest segment.
If we look at revenue, then mobile is also king, console and then PC.
Just because you don´t like Candy Crush, does not mean its not a game and popular.
Yes, women usually play cell phone games like candy crush saga. Yes, women play games, BUT they do not make a "modern audience", since they don't play games with complex storylines.
Those are the game that are altered to suit woke militants. No one is going to include woke content to an absctract game like candy crush.
So you re basically going off-topic. You make a point that doesn't prove the existence of the "modern audience".
Well obviously not.
The modern audience is basically what we call the mainstream audience, those are casual players and comes in all sizes, ages and sexes.
I don´t think you understand what woke means.. I think what you dislike is DEI (that is almost the opposite of Woke in American standards)
Well, Modern audiences doesn't mean mainstream audience. It means "modern values who demand respect to progressive sensibilities". that is the role point of the discussion.
Yes, I am using the woke word as "pejorative term to address parts of modern progressives as radicals and delusional" and not the black movement word. DEI is a part of "going too far progressive", but certainly not all of it.
False statistics. Which I have repeatedly explained in detail how they are wrong. All of which you have ignored. Because the only thing you are capable of in discussions is trolling. You have no facts.
Show me the female champions of video game tournaments. Tetris, Starcraft, and Street Fighter II. Show me ONE. Go ahead. Prove to me that women dominate gaming.
You want to make the term "gamer" so wide as it includes everyone. In which case, 50% of gamers are women. Because (when you include everyone) 50% of anything is women. That's why the statistics are flawed.
Again, look at Twitch or YouTube. Look at the tournaments. It's not 50/50 men/women. It's 99/1 men/women.
A gamer spends 20 hours per week playing games. A normal person spends a couple hours per week playing games. Drawing a line isn't a "narrow definition".
No. I think a person playing games is a normie. I think people playing 20 hours per week are gamers.
And yet we never see these people. Have you seen the EVO crowds? Have you seen the competitors? It's all men. I can see I have to shove this in your face. Lemme do a quick search.

Where are all the women? Oh, right. They aren't there. None. Not a single one. NOT ONE.
Huff all the copium you want. Women aren't the majority of gamers. You have been lied to.
The topic is about the myth of the "modern audience". That's what I'm talking about. All you seem to want to do is launch personal attacks against me. As everyone that disagrees with me does. Because you have no facts. No argument. Nothing. You are intellectually incapable of showing proof that I am wrong. So your only choice is "REEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
Mainstream audiences include those groups.
Stomp your feet as strong as you want. Data is stubborn.
I'm not the one complaining of the games being made. I don't need to cope with anyhting.
Gaming now belongs to the normies, that's what happens when things become mainstream. You'll have to cope with it.
