Different surfaces to do totally different things.
Although I have been in very nice homes with dirt floors.
Cultural thing
I always wonder that...
Carpets feels nice but it's hard to clean and they don't last long. I'm actually in early stages of swapping carpet to floorboards currently.
The dirt is packed down so it isn't like they are sweeping loose floor surface dirt.
This was in a village in the rain forest so it was always moist enough to keep the floor packed down.
I love tile and in some situations hardwood, LVP... but many hard surfaces are terrible for sound.
Play musical instruments or have sound systems and it will be reverberation hell.
One should design those rooms with sound in consideration and should consider sound management strategies, speaker placement... all as factors.
tho that's interesting.
Also makes it easier to slide from one place to the other with socks. And it´s easier and faster to clean - and You have less dust in Your PC case.
Carpet is just a waste of money.
summer=hardwood
There are sections of the house in which walking barefoot matches with carpet.
Bedrooms also IMO should be carpeted.
