Why do people use Reddit?
Serious question. I've not used it.

It seems like a glorified blog posting site.

Is that all it is or was it started for some other reason?

I'm not a huge fan of Reddit, especially considering which entities are stakeholders in the company, and I rarely post there. However, there is a wealth of knowledge on the platform. Just like here though, you're always gonna have the peons attracted to the low hanging fruits of what they consider to be "politics" today and shoehorn their personal biases into just about any topic imaginable. If you can sift through the bs, there are some good hobbyist communities. I will say though that a lot of the major subreddits offer pretty low quality content and prone to fairly blatant biases. Fortunately there are so many communities that you can find ones who are actually passionate about certain topics or hobbies.

Several reasons--

For one, Reddit completely monopolized and destroyed online communities. That's why. Back in the day, there were so many different forums you could've gone to for a dedicated topic. Reddit eventually overtook them and eventually became the only game in town for most everything.

Secondly, laziness. The whole beauty of the internet back in the day was that you had plenty of places to choose from. Reddit got everyone into liking the convenience of having everything in one location.

Third, the branding. Reddit branded itself as the coolest place on the internet, so a lot of geeks and social rejects flocked to it to feel like they were part of some exclusive club.

It's useful for info similar to how Wikipedia is

There is no information on Reddit that couldn't be found anywhere. In fact, more than half of the time, the information you find there is cribbed or linked from somewhere else.

Wikipedia doesn't have information, either, It's just a glorified book report by homeschoolers and high school dropouts who just cribbed entries from established sites. The biggest editor was a geek who lived with his parents and worked as a customs agent.

just excuses for military-industrial attacks on social spaces.

Every forum has it's uses, trouble shooting, recommendations, etc. Just not anything worth directly participating in, people are too bias/toxic to fully get the best of it's karma system.

So like any social space you sometimes end up with a bunch of garbage.

To talk some certain topics + a very good way for talking anonymously online.

I've found plenty of useful answers there.
This is my answer as well. I've not seen the muck & mire other people talk about but I would imagine that's based off the subs they choose to go to vs the ones I choose.
Why do people use steam forums?
Why do people use discord?

Because it's their preferred way of interacting with communities for what they like. And it's genuinely pretty decent for asking questions and getting answers for something specific.
Reddit is perfectly fine if you stay away from the super big stuff subreddits and stick to your interests.

I've been able to find answers on Reddit where I couldn't find anywhere else. I don't really post on there too much but whenever I'm in a pinch and need an answer to something it's a useful tool to have.

i use reddit mainly for blender and some other niche community that not latched by bunch of parasite

tbh reddit is fine, people judge that website based solely on popular sub

it has some uses. especially if the subs are small in scale. big ones are insufferable.

People past their teens don't.
The Reddit AMD forum is one of the best for solving problems with the Radeon GPU.

Nice people over there.

Isn’t that the reason why we’re here? To be entertained? For me I like to look at the VAC Discussions to laugh at people’s stories on why they got VAC Banned.
