For one, Reddit completely monopolized and destroyed online communities. That's why. Back in the day, there were so many different forums you could've gone to for a dedicated topic. Reddit eventually overtook them and eventually became the only game in town for most everything.
Secondly, laziness. The whole beauty of the internet back in the day was that you had plenty of places to choose from. Reddit got everyone into liking the convenience of having everything in one location.
Third, the branding. Reddit branded itself as the coolest place on the internet, so a lot of geeks and social rejects flocked to it to feel like they were part of some exclusive club.
There is no information on Reddit that couldn't be found anywhere. In fact, more than half of the time, the information you find there is cribbed or linked from somewhere else.
Wikipedia doesn't have information, either, It's just a glorified book report by homeschoolers and high school dropouts who just cribbed entries from established sites. The biggest editor was a geek who lived with his parents and worked as a customs agent.
just excuses for military-industrial attacks on social spaces.
Every forum has it's uses, trouble shooting, recommendations, etc. Just not anything worth directly participating in, people are too bias/toxic to fully get the best of it's karma system.
So like any social space you sometimes end up with a bunch of garbage.
Why do people use discord?
Because it's their preferred way of interacting with communities for what they like. And it's genuinely pretty decent for asking questions and getting answers for something specific.
Reddit is perfectly fine if you stay away from the super big stuff subreddits and stick to your interests.
tbh reddit is fine, people judge that website based solely on popular sub
Nice people over there.
