Sorry but better in what exactly? Too many social issues, their working culture is pretty terrible, they saving face too much and their economy does not look something they can rly brag about as well...

The more I learnt about Japan, the less I understand why so many ppl romantize it 🤷‍♀️

I full agree with you on this, same for me.

Work is inhumane and makes you a slave for their companies.

Taxes and living costs are sky high.

Housing is tiny.

Society is very uptight, reserved and will always see you as a foreigner. (plus often racism is accepted, there is no law in place against racism).

The infrastructure as in roads and such are all very small, tiny cars, lack of space, overcrowded cities.

The geography nautrally comes with earthquakes and huge waves flattening out housing areas from time to time.

There is an imminent threat posed by North-Korea, which sometimes fires missiles into the sea of Japan.

There is a general lack of English language within the Japanese society and business society, so you MUST learn Japanese to have any decent career opportunities there or get a shot.

You on the other hand will always come second in career opportunities as native Japanese will always be preferred, unless you want to be an English teacher (which is pretty badly paid in Japan).

If you want to have a family, your own house and life one day, you are also gonna have a hard time as most Japanese don't want to have kids and family but work, work and work. Hence the suicide rate is super high.


This was only some negative parts about Japan that come to mind from scratch...overall, anyone who thinks that Japan is so much better, lives in an illusion. Sure Japan is super developed and has made some great achievments and sure some " Gaijin " enjoy living there, but for MOST of us, I am gonna say its a pretty tough and " hostile " place to live, if you are looking to build a life there forever. I have talked to numerous expats that left Japan again for the reasons stated.

this is very old news . . . also it depends in which region you are.. every country has its "provinces" who dislike "any" strangers . . . look into the UK or Ireland for example. Or into the USA, Texas, northern South-America, Africa, Mid-East within religious fanatics and religious fascists, China, North Korea, there are literally many countries and regions in where "strangers" are NOT welcomed . . . if in western worlds, eastern worlds or in some centers.

Everything in Japan is so cheap right now. Things used to expensive there but now it's a budget destination for us. According to the immigration ads that got put up everywhere recently, it only requires 5 million yen to immigrate to Japan from Hong Kong right now through investment immigration. That is super super cheap.

Better at what? They are working themselves to death for mega corps, are extremely racist and hate foreigners (some restaurants don't even allow non-Japanese), are some of the most unhappy people in the world, have very low birth rates due to the work hours and unhappiness.

They got good public transit, which is nice.

I have two friends who have been to Japan, at different times, and both of them say they've never experienced such a "gaijin" stare and finger pointing in any other country they've been to.

Small sample size, but it's all I have. :P
