If you're 50 and still live with your parents...
Is that a bit creepy? At least in America. I know that living with your parents in other cultures is more acceptable into adulthood, but when does it become not Ok? The one answer I always hear is "I'm taking care of my parents." I think this is an excuse, but lets say this is correct. When does it come to a point that you need to get out on your own and make your own life? We are only here for a very short period of time.

When should adult children move out? If they should at all.

People who think that way are probably the type who had parents that couldn’t wait to kick their asses out the moment they turned 18.

I think that attitude is worth criticism far more. Imagine giving birth to a child and then wanting to get rid of them as soon as possible in order to benefit your own life.

I had parents who literally started a countdown calendar to the days when I turned 18. They thought it was really funny. I don't return their calls.
Nothing says “I love you” quite like, “Get out of my house.”

I’m very thankful to have a mother who believes that you never stop being your child’s parent. (Can’t say the same thing for my dad, though.)
There are an infinitude of these invisible, unspoken "rules" about how people should live, without there being any good reason for them. This is one of those rules.
Are you helping take care of the parents? In Merica most of the time you just toss'em in a nursing home and say to hell with them when they need ya .

My mom believes that too but her interpretation is to just treat all of us like we're literal children. We're all over the age of 30 and at this point it's just insulting and disrespectful.

I'll take care of my inlaws who are good people. My own parents kicked me out first so they can figure out old age on their own.
I don’t live with my parents. My parents live with me. There’s a difference.

If you get even 4 hours of gov help a day, which is only about enough for you to go to the doctor and come right back as a caregiver, the State Gov will come after the Estate just like putting them in a nursing home for accepting Gov help.
There's only so many hours approved on medicare/medicade for them at home.
Yes, it's an America thing.

Some adults want to look after their parents in their old age rather than letting them be abandoned and alone in some retirement home.

Same boat. Left with absolutely nothing, my education was horrible and unsupported. I had to "drop out and work hard like everyone else". They even told me as the child I was responsible for buying them a house as an adult (Theyre still renting despite having a 1/4 million income job).

Tf? I cant buy groceries and I'm only just getting my education now.

I also don't answer the phone anymore.

My in-laws are the opposite, modest, humble and very helpful.

They have already said they are not giving anyone any of us kids their money because they can't take it with them to the grave. The government can enjoy the pennies my parents will have when that happens.

Asians are more well known for it than Americans that have to work and moved off from the Family Farm, etc.

I live in a high density Chinese community in Canada, and while the parents are super strict, they're also okay with them staying home and saving

Back in the good ole days of America there wasn't a Welfare state. You had to be part of a Secret Order to get Life Insurance.

The fun part is being told that I'm being a spoilt brat for not wanting to go visit them. Um excuse me are you going to pay for the plane ticket and hotel cost? Cause you sure as hell have told me that I'll never sleep in your house again. SMH
