You're also saying "If someone did" when the OP didn't say they did it.
Stop being the "Well actually" person. Get over yourself.

Hi if you choose this route just be warned that the game is only as social as you want it to be. But the core gameplay, the art, the music, and the overarching story themes are so so beautiful and I think it's worth trying out for the free content. The game has a terrible tutorial and the monetization is terrible as well, but the community is generally great and is very welcome and assistive towards new players.
This is the only real answer based on OPs further comments.
plenty of classes to choose from.
From the famed White knight and the Lowly bait fueled Troll, to the know-it-all Arm Chair General.. there is a class for everyone and plenty of awards to be won and given..
Also have fun in the echo chambers. A type of dungeon where you can go and listen to yourself and others just like you talk only about things you want hear while totally blocking everyone else and their opinions !!!
So much fun to be had.
So, jump in today and enjoy, play for free. Just try not to get banned !!
I shall choose the class of Rogue Jester.
It's kind of hard to give a good representative recommendation, here. The "traditional" MMO experience that is also "free" is hard to find, these days.
So, "Everquest" is ancient and old-school. But, it's pretty dated and encourages a subscription or in-game purchases. It's not really "predatory" like many online games, but I think it's too dated to keep recommending these days.

Edit - OOPS! They stopped the "free" version, it seems. Eh, it's still a good, fairly easy and accessible, MMO, so I'll leave it up. Sorry.
ESO is probably your best bet for "free," but with some restrictions, yet still giving you an "MMO" sort of feeling in gameplay. If you like it, I can recommend paying for the subscription as you get all of the additional content and that's a good bit. The one caveat - You can solo the whole game except for Raid dungeons. BUT, the best gear for any particular build is going to come out of Raid dungeons. Also - If you love crafting, ESO has plenty of it. But, you can't sell to other players in an "Auction House" kind of system without being in a guild that owns a trade board. Those are the biggest gripes I have about the game and the last bit really diminishes the crafting system, for me.
(To make up for the above, there's "Warframe.)

I haven't played it, but consistently hear positive things about it and its monetization model doesn't appear to be too predatory.

Path of Exile is multiplayer capable, with a trading system, and with tons and tons of free content. It gets new Leagues every three months or so and those are free content, too.
It is NOT a traditional MMO with a shared world experience outside of trading. It can be played multiplayer, but it's sometimes difficult for that to go smoothly due to how different builds function. There is no large community mmo-like content, though. But, it's an excellent free title, all its own. (It's free, but pretty quickly you'll want to have more Stash tabs to store stuff. Those go on sale every second weekend every month. (There is no pay-to-win at all and all the other in-game marketplace items are just vanity items, skins, effects, pets, etc. ALL gameplay content is free to all and there is no soft-locking of content behind some paywall.)
