A Hair cut / style question
I have hair down to my butt, and it used to be so thick that I would have to regularly get it layered and thinned growing up, but as I got older, it's been thinning on the top due to PCOS. Well, I have been considering just getting it hacked off into a pretty pixie cut. This way, I can go some days with the pixie cut, and other days, if I want long hair again or any other style or color, I could just wear wigs. Am I crazy for thinking that I should do this or not? Also, I should add that I have to constantly keep my hair up in a bun because it's super prone to tangles; even in a bun or a braid, it somehow manages to get tangled. Thanks!

Edit: Update!
I not only trimmed some dead ends off of my hair since I haven't trimmed it in years, but I also gave myself some layers to try and add some volume while keeping most of the length. My hair feels better and it seems to be way less tangly. I still might end up going for a pixie or bob cut, but I will try to repair my hair somehow and see how this goes before I make the plunge. My partner is not wanting to see my long hair go. Sigh men.

My natural hair color is black. My go-to style is pigtails. Matter of fact I'll change my profile picture just for this occasion.

Pigtails are cute. It's so odd because when I was a kid my hair was blonde and my eyes were blue, but slowly as I got older my eyes turned hazel, and my hair turned brown.

Some people go thru that as well. Idk how or why but they go thru it.

Speak to a professional about any potential conditions.

And if you have the option; keep it LONG.

Why keep it long?

Why keep it long?

For most women hair is a key indicator of if they are living life or if they are done. In many cases when the hair gets chopped off(for non-medical reasons) that generally means that they are done living, done being attractive, done...

The flip of this is when the divorce comes, millions of people also suddenly rediscover the gym, the women grow the hair back, they start dressing better again....

People deny these things- but in most cases this is what is exactly what is happening.

uhh seems like a topic for your friends who know what your preferences are.

cause i'm just going to suggest you put enough product in it to make it stand directly vertical like wayne wells of static x did.

I am definitely not done living, and I don't think that short hair somehow makes women less attractive. I have PCOS, which means that even though I am biologically female, my body makes more male hormones than it should, so therefore, as I get older, I will unfortunately get male pattern baldness. My hair has already been thinning on top for a few years now. As for how I dress, I just wear casual / modest clothes. I just wear whatever feels comfortable. I don't really care about looking good for anyone.

Tight buns or ponytails are a no-no with longer hair. Loose chignons or loose ballerina top buns are ok. You just don't want to pull at those baby hairs in the front nor put too much strain on the roots.
Have you thought about adding thick bangs or loose shorter layers in front? I know how having long hair can be, so I would imagine you don't want to sacrifice length if you don't want to.
My bangs are the same length as my hair, down to my butt. I don't hate long hair; I just hate how my hair, no matter what I do, is tangly and thinning on top. In order to try and preserve it, I have to wear it in a bun or a braid, and even so, it still manages to get tangled in it. My hair feels and looks like it's dead in certain parts, and the texture feels odd even though I don't use any blow dryers, hot tools, or chemicals on my hair. I legit only wash it once a month to try and preserve it, because when I wash or brush it, more falls out.

My apologies, disregard my previous post then. A pixie sounds super cute for you then, perfect for what you need! You'll love the shampoo time and savings. Enjoy the weight off your shoulders :)
No need to apologize. Thanks. :)

as long as it isnt hassle to tidy up, saves time for hassling with other things.

I would have kept the long hair to be honest but braid or curl it so it's shorter in appearance. But it can be high maintenance with long hair however it's hard to get once cut.

You sound like you know exactly what you need and want then. Keeping your hair long is a losing battle it seems. If hair has dead ends and is brittle or heavily damaged, it's best to chop it off and let that new, healthy hair have a decent start over.
Wigs are SO incredibly common now and it doesn't cost a lot for quality either, if you want to play around with options. And not that it matters, but there is no stigma to wearing them either.
I appreciate your comments. :)

My straggly hair can be such a hassle. Every time I brush I get a big wad of hair that comes out. Sigh.

My hair grows length wise super fast, it's just sadly thinning. :/

A pixie hair cut can look extremely sexy. Combine it with a shaved undercut or asymmetrical style, and it looks great. Just go for it. Had long hair when I was younger. Then I got fed up with all the hair-care products and shaved it off completely. I've been sporting a buzz cut for almost 25 years now - makes life easier.
