Since its release in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) has earned an astounding $7.7 billion in revenue1. This makes it one of the most successful video games in history. The game’s popularity has been fueled by its expansive open-world environment, engaging storyline, and the freedom it offers players to explore and wreak havoc in the fictional city of Los Santos.
Interestingly, GTA V’s production cost was $265 million, which is quite substantial. However, the game’s massive success resulted in a five-fold return on its investment. With over 185 million copies sold, it continues to generate revenue from subscriptions and in-game purchases2. In fact, subscription fees and in-game transactions accounted for 78% of Take-Two Interactive’s (the parent company of Rockstar Games) revenues in 20232.
As we eagerly await the next installment, GTA VI, which is rumored to be the most expensive video game ever with an estimated budget of $2 billion, it’s clear that the franchise’s legacy remains strong. The upcoming game is set in the Miami-inspired “Vice City” and promises cutting-edge graphics and a brand-new game engine2. If GTA VI follows in its predecessor’s footsteps, it’s likely to achieve remarkable financial success as well.
So, while GTA V has already made a significant impact, it’s aiming to cross the $10 billion mark in total earnings1. The allure of virtual crime sprees and adrenaline-pumping missions continues to captivate gamers worldwide. 🚗💥🌆
Yeah and people wonder why companies are going the subscriptions and mirco transactions route with games.
Mark my words, GTA 6 will be massive and will easily make that $2 billion dollars back in it's first few months alone.
The rumour mill suggests the game on launch will cost anywhere between $80 too $100 to purchase, hope this is a false rumour but even at $100, the game will sell.
Im boycotting no one without a personal reason to do so. For me to boycott, you first need to give me a valid reason to boycott any company, business or brand name. And it has to be for a reason im passionate about. Saying 'there greedy' doesn't cut for me, I need something what really offends me to the my core.
