AI is just going to make humans more lazy.
AI is a new type of slavery. We humans are the slavemasters.

I believe the amount of information isn't the important part, it's how it parses the information, allowing it to form a web of "logic" based on what it's fed. I believe this to be the most impressive part.

I only have a basic understanding of this but as far as I know, we haven't a whole lot of control over that. You can choose how large the network will be which you want to use, and maybe tweak some variables like how the reward system works. But then, it's just feeding it data and it will work its magic.

Even though the concept is quite simple and you completely understand how it works, when it is actually going it seems like magic. I don't know if anyone yet understands what is actually going on, on the "meta-level" so to speak, where the "intelligence" seems to be.

I think you are talking about the Blue Brain Project. Within 10 years people will be going back to analogue anyway because AI is too glitchy and unreliable.

It's all been one bit PR stunt.
I hear ya, but we're already seeing the results (being able to use AI as a tool to do things that are simply impossible for humans) such as sythesising people's voices perfectly, generating ostensibly unique photos and videos in seconds.

There's a lot of practical use to be had. It being played up is definitely a thing that's happening too though, kind of unavoidable side effect :/

A simple neural network can already produce results which seem quite magical. It is like you said, you can teach it to do things by feeding it data and it will sort of self-learn. Now I cannot know this for sure, but I assume that the basic principle of that has remained more or less the same. So it depends on what data you feed it and what you can teach it to do.

With the whole information infrastructure we now have and the processing power available, we can feed it LOTS of data and it gets processed fast. And therefore we can make it do more amazing things. I admit that this is speculation but that is how I crudely imagine it.
Much like teaching a human to do something, it just needs positive and negative reinforcement, it does something, then it is told it's a "good result" and it learns from that and changes its trajectory. Again, it can do this faster than any human brain can.

I believe the amount of information isn't the important part, it's how it parses the information, allowing it to form a web of "logic" based on what it's fed. I believe this to be the most impressive part.
For entertainment purposes perhaps. However it was pulled by the US Navy recently because it was crashing their ships into each other :steamhappy: And that's military grade AI.

All it has going for it is speed really. When it comes to being of important practical use AI is clueless.

cellphones already did that
It has already displaced all of human ingenuity.
Exactly how the Butlerian Jihad starts.
Nope, we are the slaves. Mindless, brainless masses not willing to do any effort but get instant gratfication. This is ridiculous beyond imagination.
As a side note, I have been replaced by ai machine crap and now I am jobless. Thanks, technology. ♥♥♥♥ you AI.

It's called a smartphone. Humans have been giving into that garbage for the last 20 years.

Are you sure we aren't the slaves?
Humans control their own actions.
I'm a walking RNG slot machine. All my actions are randomized.

We'll have to teach AI to social distance before the next pandemic.

At least no AI is going to be non-binary.

How disrespectful to compare AI to literal slavery :steamlaughcry:

You do know where the word "robot" comes from, right? Although the original Capek robots were biological replicants, rather than metal and circuits.
A.I. is just fattening humans up for the slaughter.

The internet makes us more lazy. Instead of going out to talk to people we all waste our time talking to strangers in a game forum which will never have any positive return on our lives.
We aren't lazy already?
