When you start a war you're risking the people under you; office workers, auto repairmen, plumbers, farmers, lawyers, ... firemen ... policemen ... teachers, babies ... everyone.

You're saying "I think I'm militarily stronger, and that I will win an armed conflict, so I'm going to risk it all and attack". And you get angry and strike back.

War is not Counter Strike. It's not Arma. It's not Call of Duty. it's not a team sport nor an online game. It is a dirty lethal exercise where everyone is a target.

The rules or laws or whatever set of conventions are used typically allow the killing of combatants, typically regular soldiers, irregulars if armed, and whoever else picks up a weapon, civilians included.

Starvation is a siege tactic a old as mankind. It's nasty stuff. It may be outlawed, but what are you going to do when an army has an enemy surrounded to keep them in place? Call the police?

One of the old nasty tactics the Vietcong used was to tie grenades to children, notably little girls, and send them to the US soldiers. What do you do?

The Imperial Japanese Army was told by the Emperor himself to adhere to the Geneva Convention, but the Imperial Army took advantage of anyone they pleased. Again, are you going to call the cops?
