Terraria's appeal lies in the replay value. If you consider the sheer number of items, biomes, ores, blocks, NPCs, bosses, monsters, and structures, there is probably 4x more content in Terraria than Minecraft. All of it is procedurally generated and one of the things that kept me hooked personally were the random events. Depending on what items and upgrades you have, and how far you are into the game, random events can happen. Aliens can invade and you have to fight them off, and you get to hijack a flying saucer and use it as a mount. A blood moon could happen where hundreds if not thousands of weak but hard-hitting enemies spawn. it is an endurance event for less prepared players, and an absolute power trip for late game players. Minecraft has none of this, and that's okay since Minecraft is built around consequences, predictability, and player freedom while terraria likes to keep you on edge at all times with random encounters or events. Terraria also has a class system, but you can easily make a hybrid class by equipping the right gear. All of the classes become ridiculously powerful if you play your cards right, but you often need to make sacrifices for this. Say you want to summon as many minions as possible. You have to equip the upgrades for that in your limited upgrade slots. With all your slots filled with minion upgrades, you can't equip mobility tools like Hermes boots or wings. These tradeoffs and depth and strategy are a main appeal of terraria. There are plenty of other things to do but this wall of text is getting too long so I'll stop now

Skyrim or Ultrakill. Skyrim because it is a modder's paradise, and has more than enough to do even without mods. Ultrakill because its the most mechanically complex game I've ever played

I adore Skyrim. My hours are not impressive on Steam, but I easily put 900-1000 hours into Skyrim on PS4, and that was all on a single character. It was some argonian I forget the name of, and he was the most powerful person in the universe. Unfortunately when I tried moving the save to my PS5, something went wrong and it didn't show up. I only realized this after I gave my PS4 to a friend who was still rocking a PS3 in 2022. He wiped the console to get a fresh start, so my argonian is gone :(

It would be very difficult to argue against that as an all-around choice. And, in gaming in general, it's got to be in a top five, overall.


Though I don't play or own it, I'd also have to say that "Stardew Valley" is at least an obvious "Best in Class."
