That really depends on it reaching terminal velocity that is enough, at the moment of impact, to cause mortal damage.

If he is a relatively small fluffy dog, he may have a chance. It's probably not much of one, though.

Squirrels, for instance, have such a low terminal velocity that such an impact wouldn't likely be fatal.

he is a golden retriver, which i think is one of the larger breed of dogs, does that mean he will live?

he saw a butterfly out the window, backed up, ran full speed at my window and shattered it

he did catch the butterfly though.

i dont think its important since he has about 100 feet left until he hits the ground
