For those who don't like (or even fear) thunderstorms, why?
Apparently a good chunk of people dislike thunderstorms and sometimes even fear them. Is there a reason to this? I ask because apparently I'm weird for wanting to chase them and see the most intense weather this world can produce.

I love thunderstorms and lightening and such.

The people scared of it are scared due to numerous reasons but last not least the fact that thunderstorms CAN become dangerous to humans, I mean people are indeed struck by lightening and people are also hit by debris flying around.

I think one should have respect for such extreme weathers but not fear. I mean, I also don't run up on an open field when there is lightening.

I really enjoy thunderstorms when I'm indoors. But I do feel pretty scared when I'm outside during a thunderstorm, mainly because I'm paranoid about getting struck by lightning.

I don't like when they knock power out.

I used to be scared as a kid.

I used to fear it then about age 4 or 5 I was made to sit watching it with the backdoor open.

After that I enjoyed watching them.

I should add as that is the question, I did not like the randomness of them nor the 'what is going on' feeling and the booms and flashes.
That is probably what I like about them when I was made to watch them that time and onwards.

Hmm. I personally have no problems with them, but i know people who fear them - mainly because some tree could fall on their house - or perhaps because they don´t trust their own lightning rod installation - or because their satellite TV wouldn´t work any more, so they´re confronted with it.

Outside here it´s usually not unsafe either, because You´re hardly the tallest thing around, but it might be bad with all the water, and wind, and stuff - like some random sign flying into the face.

Not sure how it works, but a lot of fears seem to be ancestral. As if they were handed down genetically or something.
So maybe it stems from long ago when thunderstorms used to be a big thread to our survival, or something.
It reminds them of the judgment and might of GOD, before whom they tremble. :critical::Zeus:

Also, due to poor brushing and flossing habits they now have a mouth replete with metal fillings, and know they are prime targets for a direct hit.

I like them, I feel, and can’t help, something is coming closer. Thunderstorms are nice thresholds of existence, especially during a late night.

The likelihood of being struck by one is rather low, if you know what your doing. Knowing that you are safe, no reason to be scared by it. My dog on the other hand, is pretty frightened of it. If one is frightened, it would be due to low intellectual level or psychological thing.

It's so brutal!
Two men enter, one man leaves. It's disgusting!

Wait, I'm thinking of Thunderdome.
Because the local vampires never pay to repair the windows they broke during the last game.

I like thunderstorms and never feared them. Maybe because I was born during huge thunderstorm.

My modem and router are on a surge protector, connected to an ungrounded GFI outlet. Even with the coax going through the surge protector, a lightning strike nearby could be bad.

Though the derechos a couple years back caused much more misery. I've learned my lesson and will never again allow even small branches to extend over my roof.
