Shakira attacks Barbie film
"My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent. I’m raising two boys. I want ‘em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women.

I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men"

Is this a sign the tide is turning on?

I must say I would never take a male to see a Barbie movie... In a theater.

It definitely is not worth $20 let alone around $30.

So... If you're not complaining about your money though (since it's a celebrity)
Than what, is this aimed at?

Maybe the lesson is... Don't take your sons to shows aimed at "young females"
?

Why can't others complain? They're entitled to their opinion.

It's art and it is subjective.

They have deconstructed masculine figures, Batman, Joel, and Luke Skywalker.

Oh, I see... It's an April Fools Joke

And it was literally posted on that day... Guess the poor guy didn't catch it

(Or trolling) lmfao

This story is published and featured as a cover and profile story in the latest edition of Allure.

If it was an April Fools day joke, she needs to get on to her agent quickly to pull the publication and story.

OP has cited a movie, talk shows and now more movies.

Get help.

And with that, I am checking out of this thread.

I wonder what Shakira expected from a movie completely focused on the Barbie franchise.
I'm sure that there would be countless movies (for example many Disney movies) that could be accused of the exactly same thing while being supposed to be aimed at a much more wide audience.
If you take your sons to watch a movie like that and they hate it and you hate it too because of that well this is just your fault, maybe be less dumb next time?

No. This is a sign that Shakira wants to get publicity. Nothing more. "Woke" will never go away. Media sells to a global audience now. The days of pure WASP media is gone.

If it's truly threatening then it may be time to seek help.

It was a comedy film though, it really isn't as damaging as some believe it is. It makes fun of both men and women, so what's the issue exactly?

This :steamthis: The only issue is that haters just have to find things to hate.

She's from the global South which is still very traditional and men are masculine there.

Remember, there's a testosterone crisis in the west.

Thoughts from one of the dinosaurs of humanity.
:(
Emasculating? Her sons have a good vocabulary for their age and I wish them all the best.

These are the default downplaying tactics of the woke. Meanwhile they will write whole essays about how it is such an important milestone for feminism somewhere else.

She took her two boys to a Barbie movie expecting them to feel somehow empowered? Should have stuck with Fight Club.

Also, her sons are 11 and 9 and they felt it was "emasculating"? I'm seeing many red flags here, OP.
Is it still April 1st?
Wasn't Fight Club about closet gayness? IDK didn't see it, assumed it was a macho film then found out it was a gay film. Don't really have an interest in either.

Or ... these are the people rooted in reality.

I am certain that there are people the claim it is. But once again, haters just have to find things to hate.

OH so it wasn't obvious like the cowboy mountain movie?

Like I said I have no idea, funny the stuff you "hear" on the internet... at least I had the common sense to ask.
Thanks for the info!

Oh also assuming the cowboy movie was gay... IDK never saw it.
Maybe it's not?

If you see Fight Club and think "closet gayness" then it says a lot more about yourself and where your minds at.
