California's minimum wage increases to $20
It should have been $25 like Amazon, but it's a great start!

This is fantastic news. People should be paid a living wage, even if they work at Subway or Pizza Hut.

This is economic liberalism at its finest.

Vote Biden 2024.

That will probably cause prices on goods and services to rise to cover the increase price of having humans employed.

The economy is at best a zero sum game.
the point is that the prices already did rise.. its necessary to increase wages frequently or people wont be able to afford to work
It makes sense to accommodate for inflation, but it means nothing when someone who's working an entry-level blue-collar job is going from $20 an hour to $20 an hour.

Just cause the government can produce money out of thin air, it doesn't mean local businesses can do the same to pay their employees a modern-day living wage

This economy is a mess.

I can't think of any job more entry level than burger flipping, which they just made more costly to do for no reason other than good feels. A person on the street with no money is going to have to pay more for their food which is now even more out of reach.

Minimum wage should be lowered. And for employees that want to work at that wage I say God bless them.

Now if housing, gas, electricity, water, insane tax rates and all those other nonsense fees would go away we wouldn't even NEED a minimum wage.
Sadly, for some reason, there are those who believe that an entry level job is supposed to be a job that people can work to let them "live" without the need for advancement or using it to learn skills to be able to get different, higher paying work.

There are those who will quite skilled labor jobs to go flip burgers, but as it stands, with the number of franchisees who are reducing the number of people that they are hiring to limiting the hours people work, as well as moving to kiosk ordering. I live on the opposite side of the country from Cali and Taco Bell has already moved to kiosk ordering. SMH.

We have been witnessing the destruction of economic prosperity as America and the western world slow rolls into a third world anti-capitalism communist utopia.

These rabid leftoid ideologues can't seem to figure out when they pass these progressive Marxist policies inflarion goes up in turn causing higher prices, including more expensive labor costs, which then kills opportunity within a merit based system and forces businesses to figure out cost saving measures to offset those rising labor costs.

The end result then becomes the disappearance of the higher wage positions as well as people getting laid off in a workforce getting smaller in size, lower incomes at sh*ttier jobs, the end of overtime, decreasing benefits and a pension which disappears the moment you go to collect it.

Sure, you might be getting $20/hr at your minimum wage job, but now your workforce is smaller - i.e. less people running the cash registers and less people on shift - thus leading to less job opportunity, higher prices on every product and service, and a cost of living that is skyrocketing through the roof.

The last time I was in a California fast food restaurant, In & Out Burger I believe or it might have been Jack in the Box, there were only three people on shift. There was only 2 people cooking and 1 person running the drive-thru with an insane line down the street and 15+ minutes wait time per order.

What is California's solution to these job killing policies? More government and bigger government, yet the democrats can't figure out why they're causing businesses, which can't compete in their oppressive economy, to flee their democrat controlled big cities and states. It's insane.

I'm just glad I don't have to work with people and can work alone at my own pace. I only interact with people if a machine is broken.

Imagine cash registers being replaced with kiosk and self-checkouts. Oh wait... that's already happening. So no one has to run a resister.
20$ minimum wage sounds about right with average home prices of 1 million $ cya

Imagine gas pumps where no one pumps the gas for you? I hear some countries have that, savages.

First it was full-serve. Then self-serve. They'll be starting the no-serve in 2035 when they eliminate gasoline cars, those savages.
"It's a great start"

Wage hikes that are government mandated will increase the cost of living, increase inflation, decrease available jobs. Some people will likely lose their jobs because of this and some businesses will go under.

There's probably some thinking "Good if these companies can't pay their employees X then they shouldn't be in a business" Congrats Mega-corporations appreciate your loyalty as you help them crush small businesses, and the wealth gap is frowning on you.

1) Fast food restaurants will be scrutinizing their prospective employees now. For $25/hour, those with college educations or those who were making $20/hr doing skilled labor, will now be applying to McD's. This means that high school dropouts, first time unskilled laborers will be competing with much stronger candidates. Thus, this demographic (unskilled workers) will be replaced by better qualified people, rendering them jobless and sinking them more into poverty.

and/or

2) It will be cheaper to automate fast food. It's already started in many cities in the US. Fast food restaurants that typically need 30-50 employees to run weekly, will be able to get by with only 4-8 employees who ensure the automation is working properly.

and/or

3) The cost of the food will increase to offset the loss of revenue due to wages. This will mean fewer customers, particularly those who make less wages.

This is another great example of how liberal policies harm those they claim to help.
This is why we should be communist. Everyone is equal financially and gets the same thing. :3

Except how do the communists in our society treat others? Very poorly.

And communist countries are famous for during massive scale purges of their own citizens.
