USA nutrition fact labels are the worst
They listing calories per SERVING! It's just so stupid. What if you eat more or less than one whole serving, what if serving size is lack any practical logic and put only for people to eat more of product without thinking much? What if you need to prepare big enough meal for multiple people who eat differently (simpliest case as having kids behind the family table)? What's wrong with listing nutrition per one set weight for every product so you can count by yourself how much of food do you need today? What wrong with the school-grade math in the everyday life, did you study it for nothing? Not even for your own health and conviniency?

No wonder they have such high rate of obesity if they can't even count their calories straight.

Because teaching about proper nutrition harms the medical industry. It's an industry. Vegetable seed oils cause rapid oxidation of the blood. It's the same as highly processed pork fat. Doctors won't tell you that. But if you mention that to them. They might say you are practicing medicine without a license and refuse to treat you.

Per serving and per package is never as good as flat "per 1 set weight measure" for any product that 'l allow you do calculate on the fly which products at the shops are the best, which are too much for use, how much would any thing you buying weight if you don't have the package for any reason, and, which is also important, it's undependant on package size, on serving size and works great with kitchen scales.

You can go in shop and in just figure out in one glance which exact products among many would be good for you. Not Oreo's like "2 cookies per serving".

If you don't have the package or label, how would you know what's in the "per 1 set weight measure", even if you had scales? 100g of grain doesn't have the same nutrition as 100g of fruit.
Easy. In these cases you can just google the nutrition of 100g of any thing. That's what you do for vegetables, like example.

You're grasping at straws to justify your annoyance at an insignificant matter.
Bruh, what? If servings would work better, then the whole Europe would start to use them years ago.

Math not hard, but math on every thing you eat, every ingredient.

All right, measuring things in whole cups! Because with fractions if you will ever need them, you gonna confuse things as most people do on any type of diet (people always underestimate how much they really consume). And all these things assuming americans have only one size for cups, and they all count them the same way, without pouring too much or below the top level.

It's just as precise as "handful", "spoonful" and other similar types of measurements making people easely understimate how much they really taking. But you can't fool the scale. Scale will show you the precise weight of your product, too bad labels don't tell you calories per weight, so you have to do one extra step in america for no good reason.
...

So, you want the portion size in grams? Milliliters? Do you want all food products measured by a specific gravity based on calorie count? Caloric Density per gram?

You've got to be trolling - It's as if you think nobody has ever measured stuffs before you thunked it up... Nobody gives two wet farts about a smidgen over or under a particular portion size for food. A kitchen isn't a pharmacy or a lab.

Supplemental reading material while you are portioning out moles of hydrogenated soybean oil for salt bae...

PS: This is one of those "hate 'murica" threads, right?

Seems to me doing by weight is a lot more complicated frankly.
May be easier for "you". Most people don't weigh their food, they wouldn't even have a frame of reference.

turning on the scale and putting in clean container complicated compared to just pouring out 2 cups from a can or eyeball half a can

if he would look on the cans he mentioned he would find they list weight, not volume
anything would have both per serving and weight / volume as applicable
OP just wants it in certain types of measurement or based off a % of X amount of base weight.

then complains its too complicated per serving... just don't get it, probably should just stop responding.

Ignore what the packages say... it's what I do.

I know what food / drink is good for me, not some expect. My own body tells me if im eating the right food or not. Take McDonlds for instance, after eating a big mac, my body is telling me, this food is crap and im going to punish you for eating it.

Once you realise people are making a ton of money from selling healthy food, then you know it's a scam.

those should be measured by weight, not volume

The problem there is that accurate scales are not as easily available, or consistently accurate, as volumetric measuring cups.

Necessity > Absolute Accuracy

There's always something every country could do better, but yes, our Nutrition Label servings size is ridiculous. There have been attempts at fixing it. I think President Obama was the last IIRC.

It'd be pretty easy to see who really is advocating to not fix it if people were interested, but I don't think I or many Americans care. We're just going to eat what we want to eat anyways.

trying to fit eighth of a cup of olives in measuring spoon and knowing their intention. do you mean loose olive or chopped up to fit in cup

when they shrunk the cans used to be 5 olives serving ez
now is eight cup and big olives hang over top

sorry, but anyone doing even a basic amount of cooking/baking should have a scale in their kitchen (and use it)

they are cheap and very accurate (mine is to the gram)

edit: i may be overdoing it since i even weigh coffee beans before grinding them
It's becoming more common but there are a lot, and I mean a lot, of people that just already know how to be at least the level of "Home" cook. And they are adults. Old habits are hard to break.
