i think if overdone in terms of clothing or makeup its not appealing, like middle-century type makeup or clothes from castlevania is kinda odd but as a general lifestyle it is appealing cause goth culture for once is not as annoying as "happy" type of attitude cause then its just embarassing when a person is laughing all the time and smiling even if there is no reason of being happy, mainstream culture often overdoes it honestly due to for example corporate politics where consumer is always treated with a smile, so it feels a bit over the top cringe when a stranger just creeply smiles at you because you went in there to spend 5 dollars and 1 minute of your time.
