I hope TikTok is banned
If your main source of income is being a tiktok then that's really sad. One less social media app the better. I'd rather have my private data stolen by America then by China. I've never liked tiktok. The whole short form of content has really affected the brains of this generation. TikTok being banned would be one good thing from 2024.

NOOOO I MAKE A LIVING ON TIKTOK DANCING AND COMPLAINING ABOUT STUFF DON'T MAKE ME GET A REAL JOB

Not until Trump is back in office. People are waking up via certain posters on TikTok. The majority is filth and degeneracy but their are a few gems and they are crucial for the apocalypse that is happening.
You speak as if TikTok would get banned everywhere, and as if the US was all of America.

And personal data does not need to be stolen for us to have nice things. We should focus on ethical social media, not exchanging six for half a dozen.

Well western media/apps are banned elsewhere, but apparently that is fine and not hypocritical at all. However, it is probably setting a bad precedent to start banning things.
So, it's not necessarily a direct ban.

It's stating that to run the app in the US, it has to have a base of operation in the US for the US. Right now, the base of operation for TikTok is in China, which is the issue.

They can very well keep TikTok in the US. They just need to operate it from within the US for users in the US.
Oracle handles all the USA TikTok data tho. However they do have backups.

Social media has done more to contribute to the downfall of civilization than anything else, but the current KOSA and tiktok hysteria is quite asinine. Nothing but hollow political theater that does nothing of substance and only attempts (and fails) to give the impression of doing something.

Also agreed with these two comments.

I would rather no one stole or had access too my data period. The problem is here, you saying your happy for your own government to have access too your personal data and information but not another government. Your logic is all wrong. No one should be able to access your information but here we are. That can of worms as been open and won't ever be shut again.
Only someone who has spent their entire lives bathing in a sea of ignorance wants to see corrupt politicians abuse power to attack platforms that don't pay their election funds or work along side them to aid the spread of western political propaganda.

This has literally NOTHING to do with the safety and security of your data, the people in office couldn't care less what happens to you.

Totally agree.

The problem of course is that governments only form one part of the problem, the other being that modern technology is a leaky ship.

Data has become useful currency and to make it worse you only need to know how to identify individual footprints rather than names and addresses to achieve the same result.

The so called data protection laws simply don't encompass the modern era in both definition and storage of.
Social media is a shinning example of a business that has no real imperative unlike say a hospital to be able to aggregate yours even with others data (by data i mean personal and non personal).
Does anyone need any further proof that our government is tightly in bed with the likes of Google and Facebook? You know, the ones losing money to TikTok just as a ban conveniently comes in to save them?
I don't care much about Tik Tok ... but people who replay the same clip 25 times while having their speakers turned up ...really annoy me..

lol tiktok ban...as if that'll happen. Why would Biden go against his business partners, the CCP? Its not gonna be banned. Its gonna be bought aka taken over by some "other company" aka the American government to pose as saviors while in reality they'll just be getting more power and control. People cry and seethe about content in Tiktok, yeah thats because we got the Western slop verison...something we suddenly care about now and not before?

Many countries already have bans on Tiktok for people that work for the state. I am permitted from having and using it ie. We are not just talking work related devices, but also private ones.

Not that I used it in the first place, so its no concern for me.
