And personal data does not need to be stolen for us to have nice things. We should focus on ethical social media, not exchanging six for half a dozen.

Also agreed with these two comments.
I would rather no one stole or had access too my data period. The problem is here, you saying your happy for your own government to have access too your personal data and information but not another government. Your logic is all wrong. No one should be able to access your information but here we are. That can of worms as been open and won't ever be shut again.
This has literally NOTHING to do with the safety and security of your data, the people in office couldn't care less what happens to you.
Totally agree.
The problem of course is that governments only form one part of the problem, the other being that modern technology is a leaky ship.
Data has become useful currency and to make it worse you only need to know how to identify individual footprints rather than names and addresses to achieve the same result.
The so called data protection laws simply don't encompass the modern era in both definition and storage of.
Social media is a shinning example of a business that has no real imperative unlike say a hospital to be able to aggregate yours even with others data (by data i mean personal and non personal).
Many countries already have bans on Tiktok for people that work for the state. I am permitted from having and using it ie. We are not just talking work related devices, but also private ones.
Not that I used it in the first place, so its no concern for me.
