It makes it really easy when pushing a status button automatically calculates the roll required.
Dungeon and Dragons is Gygax's take on a fantasy setting with lots of mythological creatures. You tell the person running the game what you do, and throw dice to see how well you succeed in combat and non-combat actions.
I'm not partial to it because it's kind of an uncompleted game. It mixes a lot of historic periods and cultures into something that's ... "truly unique", to be polite. The latest versions have a kind of what's termed today a "woke quality" to them.
Check to see if there are any local conventions happening near you. There's always people there willing to help people get into the hobby.
It has DND in its name so it counts I say.
yea the best way to get into it is just to dm a campaign. people will join you because no one likes to dm.
but you're going to need to read a lot. its a lot of reading. depending on the edition and rules you want to select and include, and you're going to need to provide those rules and whatnot to the players, then give them time to theorycraft their builds, then do your first campaign run.
otherwise go into communities or groups that have campaigns in progress and list yourself as a fill-in. you'll probably not be allowed to make a new character, but its better than nothing, filling in for people sucks but its not the worst.
last thing, dont be afraid to have characters die. theorycraft a plan B and C character in case you find yourself with a permadeath dm that wont allow resurrection magic or techniques.
edit: as a sidenote, my favorite campaigns to run and participate in were:
DND monster quest (you pick a monster, and then enemies scale based on your choice. if you picked a prismatic dragon you'd end up regreting it lol)
wh40k adaptation + homebrew rules
macross
and dnd 2nd ed (mainly because i dnt wanna get the further versions lol)
The permadeath advice is good, thanks.
I'm kinda more looking for a community, not a service. If I have to manage stuff like characters and maths I can do that, I just need someone to tell me what exactly has to be done and how things work :(
Thanks for replying btw
