They are a subsect of Christianity founded in the U.S by Joseph Smith who claimed that an angel visited him and told him the location of another testament of the Bible that was written on gold plates and buried in the forest.
He got some people to help him dig up the "plates" and he read them out of a box with a sheet over his head without ever letting anyone else see them.
The gold plates supposedly said that Jesus came to the U.S and preached there, among other things.
Joseph Smith was killed by an angry mob who shot him as he was trying to climb out of a window. (The same way Pablo Escobar died).
The current LDS church has a council of 12 apostles who are supposedly descended from the original 12 in the same way the Pope is descended from St. Peter. LDS believes in the doctrine of continued revelation which means that any of those apostles can have a revelation from God at any time and it will be treated the same as if it was a revelation from Moses or Daniel.
They are extremely strict and very invasive when it comes to family matters. At least from what I have seen.
You being gasslit, hold firm with your i'll believe it when i see it beliefs ^-^
In the Bible we're warned :"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:8-9)
Joseph Smith didn't care to listen to that part of scripture though. Also, the angel that Smith claimed to converse with said its name was "Moroni", or "moron I". Almost like it was a deceiving spirit mocking him.
