idk what you mean by safe. But stay away from public servers.
unless you want to be barraged by spam, e-girls trying to get free things, scammers attempting to steal your discord account or get you to buy something and the cluster ♥♥♥♥ that is the general discord public.

if you just add your friends you know irl, and maybe make your own private server discord

Don't go on public servers. And definitely be careful of strangers or people DMing you. There are also alot scams. Even in servers im not active in I get random DM's asking me to click a link.
