is "trash talk" a legitimate part of gaming?
what do you think? does some "friendly banter" have a place in gaming?

I think it makes it more fun... as long as people know when to take it easy...

I've always seen trash talking as a sign of nervousness and frustration. But it shouldn't have a place competitive events.

Moderation existed back then too. This is simply nostalgia speaking.
ya, but moderation was different back then...

the point used to be to not let things degenerate into some black hole of horror... but at some point it turned into just censoring every "unsavory opinion"
They used to do that, you were just not so outraged at getting caught.

I don't think so... I'm fairly confident that things were more chill back then.

Yes. Hands down, and if you cant cut it you either

a.) have some serious growing up and thickening of your skin needed.
b.) are not cut out for having your voice chat turned on.

Its funny when games try to moderate game chat at all... like there isnt ways to mute in almost every one of them

The Banter of Open hostility is better than the seething toxicity of female hostility, so yes, it was always legitimate, and things have only become worse withthe feminization of all spaces.
It has always been apart of MP culture, even before Call of Duty. Counter Strike, Quake, OG Halo, ESPECIALLY MMO's. You've likely been shat on. I would say that corporate is trying to remove it for sure, Xbox, PS and Nintendo banning people for toddler cursing - while platforms like Steam are on the line of discretion and reasoning. I wouldn't say it's a core attribute to gaming, as it is more of just a side effect of competition.

Maybe if money is involved somehow, like if you payed to enter a tournament or something. If no one is gonna win anything at all from a match of whatever game I see no reason to get angry if you lose personally.

Edit: if you mean like people going "Git Rekt" to other players as CASUAL banter, that's a part of gaming I dont mind. Its good to get a little fire in your belly every now and then, what are they supposed to do? Say "Im sorry I won?" lmao.

It's actually the free games (CSGO, Dota, TF2 etc) that have more trash talking than the rest.

Yeah its kinda sad tbh. Theres a reason I consider myself a hermit online for the most part. I hate majority of people online lol.

if one deals with a troll in any game, mute/block the user being a dickwad. easy fix really.

If there were psychos on the internet like tv tells us then they would have shut it down by now. Fortunately, most people know how to take a joke.
