is "trash talk" a legitimate part of gaming?
what do you think? does some "friendly banter" have a place in gaming?

I think it makes it more fun... as long as people know when to take it easy...

Absolutely. I like being trash talked because there's a decent chance they accidentally drop some decent advice so I don't repeat my mistakes

I also think it works better when you know that person.
idk, I think there's something to be said for treating everyone as a friend until they do something to show otherwise.

most games have pretty good features to mute/ignore people you don't like.

That's why i have microphones turned off, If you use a mic to relay important information that's fine but i hate trash talk.

Yes. Players can be crappy to you without actually saying anything, so it's not like being uptight with moderating actually does anything. If someone wants to make an attempt to ruin your day, there's nothing stopping them, and I'd argue putting it into action is far worse than just telling you that you suck.

That being said... It is also the reason I avoid multiplayer games. I want to have fun. not for my day to be worse than before I started playing.

If you play Dota, it's not only legitimate but also a valid tactic.

It's childish, disrespectful and people only do that because they're safe behind anonymity. I'm pretty sure these people wouldn't say anything if they were in an arcade with strangers lol.

I haven't played DOTA since the non-english speakers who invade NA servers in parties gang-reported me and got me perma-muted lol...

Depends on the game, and the community.

You don't go into a church and say the bread could be better. Call of Duty was made for trash talk, I'm not sure I'd say the same for Assetto Corsa.

TL;DR: Yes.

Some of the competitors in those fighting game tournaments have looked to me like they were close to coming to blows for real.

Thats how real friends are made, whimpers dont make good friends in the long run - to easy to offend :0.

Life is to short, the answer - its BIG part of gaming, cenzor is for weaklings!

Banter is fine, trash talking is a separate ego and shouldn’t be apart of someones gaming experience
