Why do people buy hundreds of steam levels

Well you may get more booster packs, friend slots, showcases and it kinda shows how smart you are too. ;-)

I mean having much money is also only purely cosmetic. Still people admire it. Why is it valued so high by the majority?

Every 10 levels means another Profile Showcase can be shown.
However you can buy those with points now.

Hmm - from free games i suppose, when You say You got it completely for free.

I sometimes sell the cards i have in duplicates, but never bothered to buy something. Which is why i usually have 69 cents on my account, as they sell for like 2 or 3 cents. Sadly now i have 72. Didn´t know that it´s supposed to do anything for the level, and hadn´t looked into the gem thing - as i rather take the 2 cents as it seems more valuable...

Its a fad just like being a completionist on achievements. Its also a good way to empty your inventory or points from buying games.

u shouldnt use steam convert to gems function. rather trade it for gems in the games forum.

also most profitable cards are not from free games but from hentai and animal porn games. u gret almost 10 fold back if u get 1 foil drop. without foil drop u get just ur money back. but then u just use gems to craft booster packs. if u have like 100 packs u get 20ish foils, which make u more or less rich as those horny ppl pay good for those cards

edit. if u see high lvl fokls idle anime or animal porn games its for the cash mostly, not cuz we jack off to that stuff
