TikTok to be banned in US
If someone reads this or uses these forums. It's unlikely that they use TikTok. Many people do.

The reason that it's going to be banned is as you may have heard due to the access to so many people's data and it poses a national security risk.

What data? I've no clue really. What I do know is if their reasoning is to protect consumers data, then TikTok isn't the only service or product that should be banned. There's quite a few out there.

Late last year, TikTok was forced to admit that it used this same data to spy on individual Americans, including journalists. Without question, TikTok is a Trojan Horse.

At least 27 states and the federal government have banned the use of the app on government devices. My advice: If you or someone in your family insists on using TikTok, install it on a separate device, like an old smartphone. Don’t connect that device to your home network. Use a cellular connection to get online.

Several states have also banned a few other Chinese-owned apps and platforms. This list includes Weibo, WeChat, and Alibaba.

There's others. Temu, SHEIN, CapCut.

There's also the products.

The FCC banned sales and imports of Huawei devices in November, citing national security concerns.

Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Oppo have faced similar accusations. A recent report found Chinese-made Android phones include “an alarming number” of preinstalled apps that grant dangerous privileges.

There's also drones. The most popular made by DJI

A DJI drone with a thermal-imaging camera is seen in Menlo Park, Calif., March 3, 2019. Chinese-made drones could pose a national security risk to the United States due to laws in China that force companies to provide authorities access to user data, two U.S. agencies say in a new memo.

So there's a lot and I have no clue how far it reaches. China makes 1/3 of the products the US uses and with a law as stated in the DJI quote, it's likely to be something we hear about so much that we get bored about hearing how yet another product is banned in the US.

Think to all China's owned products, services and companies out there. The anti-cheat software. The DRM. The digital distributors. The publishers and devs. Think of all of the games Tencent owns.

It's hard to believe that the US goverment is being tasked with this, regulating technology. Are they going to double down and have a 3rd party that's more efficient handle it for them or are they going to be criticized for being hypocrites? This is so odd to me. And to top it off, say a republican was in office for the next term, they'll be lax on pushing this forward.

Yes, I believe that's called mercantilism.
raid shadow legends it's also a trojan horse for the "sloppy job, mossad" but it seems nobody is complaining about it
Originally, when TikTok was under investigation forced upon it by Donald Trump to ban, right after teenagers on TikTok happened to troll his election rally....

Kevin A. Mayer became the US TikTok CEO and TikTok servers where setup in America. So not only did you have your own US servers, but an American who also use to be the head of Disney's streaming service managing it all.

Donald Trump wasn't happy with this and completely railroaded Kevin A. Mayer into quitting his job. Trump was ironically trying to get rid of the American component of TikTok, more than the so-called China is spying via TikTok issue.

Trump's administration was even labelled as a "bull in a china shop" in regards to what they did to Kevin A. Mayer and TikTok.

Reporter Alex Sherman quote: “Do you feel screwed over by the Trump administration?”

Kevin A. Mayer responded: “Uh, yeah. Yes. That’s the short answer to it.”

Now Trump wants Facebook banned instead of TikTok?!?!?!!! I think I understand why... because the owner Mark Zuckerberg is an American? Trump says he considers Facebook and I quote "an enemy of the people", and now that banning TikTok would empower META!

Trump quote: "Without TikTok, you can make Facebook bigger, and I consider Facebook to be an enemy of the people."

Completely forgotten about 2020, wiped from his short term memory... unless *drum roll please* Trump was never concerned with foreign spying at all?

Trump quote: "I think Facebook has been very bad for our country, especially when it comes to elections."

This is the United States, I thought we valued freedom and liberty?
Howabout we ban lockdowns and medical mandates? That stuff wasn't good for mental health either. Howabout we ban war?

Oh that's so cute you actually believe that. We are nothing more than serfs and peasants who toil away for the benefit of our betters

You don't think individual US citizens should be able to decide if the Chinese government has a legitimate use or need for *their* data? If we aren't intelligent enough to decide that then how are we intelligent enough to decide that our refrigerator needs our data?

I did not speak to the questionable appearance of "intelligence" in US citizens. Most likely, it's like Bigfoot - Everyone knows someone who says they might know someone who has seen it, but nobody has actually seen it themselves...

they admitted that they gave info to china but said it only happened the one time

fine to take that chance with your private info and wrong to ban if from everyone

right to remove it from gov't phones and put a warning that it happened

Quote: "[TikTok] managers sometimes instruct workers to share data with colleagues in other parts of the company and with ByteDance workers without going through official channels. That data sometimes includes private information such as a user’s email, birth date and IP address. Meanwhile, ByteDance workers in China update TikTok’s algorithm so frequently that Project Texas employees struggle to check every change, and fear they won’t catch problems if there are any, the people said."

Note: This was TikTok Creator data only, not your average TikTok viewer.

Result: TikTok has already been banned on government devices in most Western nations.

Do I believe governments and high security individuals should run a TikTok account, risking possible security? No.

Do I think TikTok is spying on your American children's dance moves? No. Probably not.

So the only real risk is it's TikTok algorithm changes, which might push certain content upon your American child. Anti-Israel and Anti-Jewish content? Harmful content? Disinformation?

In comparison of TikTok vs other social media platforms, ironically Facebook (META) and specially xTwitter, even Truth Social, has a worst privacy and transparency act, than TikTok. In fact, xTwitter pretty much got rid of all their transparency and has unknown third party ad sources, questionable algorithms and pushed disinformation content, etc.

Donald Trump is actually agreeing with me now, but only because Joe Biden decided to look into what he previously obsessed about (banning TikTok). Yet do I think you need to ban Facebook? No rather xTwitter would be the platform to question the most currently.

They are party to classified information generated by specialists who spend their lives thinking and investigating these security issues, and defence issues. What makes the average member of the public, who is not skilled, who is not knowledgeable, who is not party to classified information, who is not a defence expert, mistrust their government? The answer, in my opinion, is the root of many of the problems in America today.

On that : yes, i'd too like to know WHAT datas. That its is banned from gov devices is cringe : it should not have been installed from the start, but anyways. For the data part what more than geolocalisation d'they had ?

On the other things : US economy has an enormous debt, producing in the US for the US market can only be a good thing for the US economy and make sense. But get ready to have the smog and smoke stacks back : haaaaaa, Boston in 1900.

Even if social media had better transparency then tiktok I'd be more worried about phones, cloud services, and most IoT devices. It doesn't matter how transparent you are about data sharing, if the user has virtually no choice then they will always accept. If tiktok can be banned outright then it means it isn't in a position to force users to agree to their terms since it isn't essential, but users are agreeing knowing the risks because they offer a service that they determine is worth it. I may not agree with those people but I agree that it's their data and they have the right to give it to whoever they want.
