Well, US citizens and their government have the Right to make their own decisions, don't they? If they don't like something, they don't have to use it. And, if they disagree with how something they are being sold is or can be used to exploit information and private data, they have the Right to refuse to allow that to be sold or used if they don't agree with that policy, Right?
Or, are you saying that other citizens in other nations do not have the right to refuse access to such data by another government?
If China is concerned about this, they can change their policies. If they don't, then they must not be sufficiently motivated to do that. That is their Right to do or not do within their own laws, too.

If TikTok is sold and no longer subjected to Chinese law requiring government access to user data by default, then there will not be a problem. If it is not, then TikTok will be banned.
Btw kids haven't learned "gaming is luxury" right, a rare phrase would be becoming common phrase there.
I guess he had forgetten the time he was obsessed and raging about TikTok all the time, wanting it banned, when he was the US President... because the TikTok teens trolled him.

YouTube was afraid of TikTok, it's what drove them to crteate shorts.
Google.com would never have been used without their use of AI and a clean interface

This bill of banning TikTok is oddly bundled with money to Ukraine and Israel.
I don't know if everything I said has meaning. Something just doesn't seem right about having the TikTok ban bundled.
How many users are going to learn about VPN's because of this ban?
there is the saying, help emergency, but not help the poor.
doesn't matter how many clue I get from media, I am still clueless.
You know I thought it would be just for government officials, not the entire country, I wasn't in the know. I guess we're lucky what was discovered was publicized. If I imagine 10 years in the future, thinking about future tech.
You have a company with a tons of videos on their servers that has been blocked from anyone viewing those videos. What if it's a loss for them. They could sell all data to the highest bidder. make a tiktok drinking alcohol unresponsibly? guess who wants to know? your car insurance company, health insurance, bank loan and even a future employer. did someone make a tiktok that featured you in the background and they could see your face and lips, with you talking to someone on the phone "I got tested and found I have HIV" then you'd be someone these types of companies I mentioned would pay more for compared to your unresponsible drinker. All those companies have a calculated date of death for you based on a number of factors, they need to know what to charge you for your insurance premiums or if you'll default on your loan or cost the company money. And these 4 types of companies have been doing that before 2018, I can't imagine what's being done today or what'll be possible in 10-30 years from the data they collected. That's probably the worst part, the not knowing part.
China and the US have had so many arguments over commerce. It doesn't make sense to me. Both countries are losing money and slowing the advancement of tech by not working together. For example we're several years behind in solar panel technology due to US passing Tarriffs importing Chinese solar panels and the China following suit about 25 years ago.
Nothing to do with whatever they are claiming to be the reason - just the fact that they are not able to get a backdoor to spy on you.
Never guns though. They will ban guns in DC but not schools. Curious how that works.
That's because China was subsidizing and effectively state-funding their solar-panel industry which allowed those companies to sell their products at below-cost rates in order to drive US companies out of business and to secure a near monopoly on the product market... The US had to respond to that.
If you haven't revealed your private data, a company that you do business with or share your most intimate information with has already done it.
That's why it's so difficult to get some kind of baseline privacy protection for US citizens - Privacy is commercialized, not "protected."
But, that lack of response by government or regulation stops when a foreign government becomes involved with gaining access to that data, sometimes in "real-time."
And, to be fair, one must also acknowledge that certain commercial interests in the US are likely very enthusiastic about legislation that seeks to remove or hamper TikTok in order to help promote the growth of their own services that have similar functionality.
I'm sure they will patriotically pat themselves on the back for influencing legislation while they cash the checks being paid to them by shell companies harvesting data for US government agencies...:)
