Preventing an e-mail lockout.

Long explanation incoming.

I use Microsoft Outlook for my e-mail, and for the past six months, Outlook's been giving me announcements about a major update to Outlook. The update was supposed to drop yesterday, and because I can't sign in to Steam without a Steamguard code sent to my inbox, I'm worried that this could potentially prevent me from logging in to Steam if something goes wrong. Is there a way for me to prevent getting locked out of logging in to Steam if worst comes to worst?

I´d use something like outlook if i had multiple e-mail addresses to manage, to have all the communication centralized.

But anyway: if anything fails You can still log in into Your normal e-mail account, no? Outlook is like an extra step, no? To share Your personal information with Microsoft probably.

No, Outlook itself is an e-mail service, like Gmail or Yahoo! Mail. You get it as part of your Microsoft account.

OP. Updates shouldn't interrupt service, but you can put Steam and Steamguard on your mobile phone if available. You can also just make an alternate email address and change your Steam settings for the transition if you're really worried.

Why would you be locked out due to an update to Outlook? You are aware that Gmail and Yahoo update their email stuff/apps and such on a regular basis as well, right?

Yeah, that's what I've realized. Good thing I caught on to the truth of that particular e-mail just in time. I ALMOST fell for one of the most basic internet scams, but it only ALMOST happened. Yeesh, I need to be more careful.

pretty sure you can log into almost any email service online through a stationary website.

outlook should have a webclient, so you'll always have access to email through a browser.

the thing that you open on your desktop talks to the pop3 server automatically without needing to sign in, that's the only difference.

on the browser you just sign in through the correct website.
