This forum should be a place of freedom of speech
Which means any post is allowed as long as it doesn't do the following:
1. Post porn
2. Violate United States law
3. Incite immediate direct violence, raids, or doxxing

Wouldn't it be nice that everyone can freely post their thoughts without the threat of being unnecessarily silenced?

This largely dismisses the issue- audience. I don't think they're advocating just for here, but in general, freedom of speech to be restored online. If you keep segregating, all you get is tribalism via echo-chambers
This doesn't have much need for freedom of speech, because then you get every single platform no matter what and what it is becomes universal. It's like going on LinkedIn or StackOverflow and start spamming political stuff.

This is an off-topic forum, all topics are supposed to be universal.

Most of LinkedIn is propaganda anyways, riddled with corporate silencing. I got my account and government ID banned for posting this pdf:

Why
Because it would make this forum more interesting by allowing anyone to speak freely.

I've been saying for years now that the U.S. Government should nationalize all social media platforms.

Oddly enough, it's the socialists who are most opposed to that plan.

I am not american but honestly does not sound a crazy idea... 🤔

However, will it be able to compete with the private ones?
There would be no private social media. Private social media can't guarantee Freedom of Speech so they'd be illegal to own and operate.

Added bonus: There'd be no advertising on government-owned social media.

That's not freedom of speech is it
Because someone isn't allowed to open an illegal business violates their Constitutional Freedom of Speech?

How so?

That's the most communist thing I've heard in a long time Joe. What the actual ♥♥♥♥ are you smoking. Haha.

"Only the government can tell people what to say."

Whut.

It's definitely a communist concept. And it would fall apart immediately if/when the First Amendment were altered or discarded.

But a government-run social media platform cannot censor or ban citizens from exercising their Freedom of Speech. It would end the "such-and-such private company isn't allowing freedom of speech" debate once and for all.

The only real drawback (other than paying for it with your taxes) is the government would have immediate access to any and all criminal content made there. Just don't break the law...

Laws are subject to change, or they should be if they represent the people.

Not being able to discuss things currently against the law would prevent the ability to change laws.

If you even bring up the idea of legalization you would be breaking the law under your rules of "freedom of speech".

Inciting people to do harm to people or property is another matter and a violation of another law.

It would be.

Much in the same way I'm currently not allowed to open a business that rents handguns to convicted felons.

No what you want would be illegal
Do you not understand that laws can be passed to make things illegal?

The absolute last thing I want to government doing is deciding what is free speech and what isn't.

Our system we have now has flaws but it's far superior to what you're proposing Joe.

We both know that what the government would allow as "free speech" under what you're suggesting would change drastically depending on which party is in charge currently.

No citizen of the USA should be calling for the government to do much beyond infrastructure and making sure our food isn't poison.

That's just socialism.

Well, obviously, we wouldn't want this until we have the right people in power...
