Stop writing " OF " instead of " HAVE ".
Stop writing " OF " instead of " HAVE ".

I am not even an English native speaker and I surely make grammar mistakes here and there, but it really bugs me when natives write of instead of have.

For example they say :" He could of told me " instead of " He could HAVE told me ".

Its not even a dialect or slang of some sort, its just WRONG.

I don’t see it often, they could also say “could’ve”

But they WRITE could of, not could've and they say could OF not could've.

I hear the difference even though I am not a native.

Also keep in mind a lot of people text to speech and it may just be missed.

That said though languages do evolve from lazy speech. Ain't isn't an English word only American for example.

I agree with you it is done out of ignorance but ignorance wins when it becomes accepted.

Personally I have seen the mistake a few times and just assume it is voice to text and lazy checking since it isn't a spelling error.

Not something I worry about.

Its probably because of the speech-to-text software they're using.
"Could've" sounds as "could of." So the software that converts speech to text simply writes that.

I'm certain that you know how it should be. But as long as it conveys the message, its all good.
