As someone with a formal education in mechanical engineering there is something called the KISS rule which basically insults the intelligence of engineers who fail to find the simplest solutions to a problem or concept. The more complex a solution, generally the more expensive and least reliable it becomes.

It's not accurate. As a child I liked a lot of complex things that I didn't understand. By definition that makes millions of children idiots, which is not the case.

An idiot admires something that's intentionally more complex than it needs to be, making life harder.
