Games to do a permadeath / hardcore.or self inflicted challenge playthroughs
Currently I've been really contemplating doing a permadeath attempt of a game as i currently have a fair amount of spare time up my sleeve.
I do have experience playing games in Hardcore like Path of Exile, Diablo and even classic wow.

I'm open to anyone suggesting games they have done stuff like this in before and enjoyed, even if the game doesnt have official modes for this but you just did them yourself.

Not sure which Diablo game you meant so Im guessing 3, but Diablo 2 hardcore characters hell run is great. Other than that souls-like games are good for this.
Assassin's Creed Mirage has a permadeath mode. There's a couple conveniences the game gives you so it's not a true permadeath, but it still very much functions in the spirit of one.

Here's a video talking about it in more detail.

Just started Dead Rising last night and it's kinda permadeathy since you can fail/ignore missions etc.

This looks exactly like Origins which is a good thing.

Might and magics used to have this permadeath with aging.

Games that are beyond age ssi built Wake of the ravager has involved addition injuries being permanent.

Games with permadeath are terraria, noita possible, maybe gauntlet being diablo is it's clone?Neverwinter nights have permadeath modes and injury among comrades.

Not seeing borderlands having it yet though maybe a mod?

Most games with an autosave feature turned off is permadeath when you die leaving a doorway transition into a small confined room that explodes....

Mass effect and Xcom would attempt to persuade to look at.....

Played Disco Elysium with perma-death recently. Return to Castle Wolfenstien without mid level saving. Deus Ex mostly in ironman. Rogue-likes FTL & Into The Breach. Currently Jade Empire no deaths. X-com Enemy Unknown I believe I reloaded once.

I rarely use the feature...

1 if you play long sessions you want to be able to save.. I tend to play games 1000+ hours for 1 playtrough.. I need breaks...
a proper permadeath does allow saves.. but most do not allow it at all.. and such nolifing is no fun.

2 many games have dicerolls inbedded from your change to hit... to what drops of loot to get.. this makes the death way to much a factor of luck rather than skill.

3 many games have way to low hp.. where 1 or 2 hits can kill you.. irl where you can be permadeath.,. a person will avoid such insane risk.. either by becoming 1 in a large group (meaning the chance you are the one hit is much less) or by basicly buffing you hp with armor to withstand many hits...
->
if the battle is a fair battle than permadeath is like two humans at the peak of fitness in a cagefight both equal chance to die..
however many permadeath is like you being an infant who cannot even walk or talk fighting the world champion in an german M-1000 tank.. with nukes for ammo..
thats no fun... for evading damage is also for a large part luck... and thus no fun..

4 many games have just to many rando encounters... you turn around the corner.. and there are 5 robbers hammering you dead... such impossible challenges.. than random apear.. can ruin the best of runs..

basicly.. there are very very few games who give a challenging fight.. that gives fair chance at loose or win... most just have the same dumb ai.. but just nerv you and buf the ai... to create a fake challenge.. that paired with permadeath is not my idea of fun.
even if I win it.. it feels like I just rolled a dice and lucked out.. not that I achieved anything.

How hardcore is hardcore? Noita is a very difficult roguelike where (basically) the only thing that carries over between runs is your knowledge of the world and its mechanics. The one thing that does carry over is which spells are unlocked and thus available for spawning in the wild; that being said most of the spells can't be unlocked without doing some optional secret that the game actively tries to hide from you
Fallout 3 or 4. Do 4 on survival mode. Borderlands 1 or 2. (never played 3 or pre-sequal)
Bioshock 1 or 2.

You can also pacifist Unreal quite well. For example, you can just rocket-jump over the big winged demon, and you do not have to kill it. There are only a few places where you have to destroy something.

Hades and Skul The Hero Slayer

Unless you don't want rougelite permadeath, then Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series. They added permadeath mode to the re-releases.
