I already switched to DDG and Startpage, but the &umd=14 trick seems to work nicely.
You don't have to use Firefox the uBlock extension for Edge/Chrome will work as well. I use it with Edge and no ads on Youtube.
It's kind of upsetting that I feel like I have to 'fix' my experience on the internet to get what I want.
I'm sure some people, and especially companies like Microsoft and Google prefer the word "Customize", but that's a load of bull.
I still remember that incident where a father angrily complained to Target about them sending his daughter ads and coupons for baby clothes and accessories, only to apologize a while later and admit they knew before he did.
And the Verizon zombie cookie scandal where they flat out admitted on record that they didn't consider formal opt-out requests to be indicative of the user's intent and wishes. That was the point when I realized there can be no quarter or compromise with marketing and advertising cartels. I can count the number of websites I like enough to whitelist ads on one hand, and even then, I don't let them set cookies.
As for browser fingerprinting, there's no real way to avoid that. The more addons you use or User Agent tweaks you do, it only gets worse. That's why Tor Browser always starts windowed and you shouldn't maximize or resize it, because the sites you view will know and log it.
Easy there, Ash Ketchum.
Even if there was competion there would still be ads becuase money does not grow on trees and ppl do not want to pay to use a social media website...
Like nobody makes business to lose money...
I don't use sponsor block. Content creators deserve credit for a deft or clever segue.
Or knowing how to spell segue.
