Neil Armstrong calling the president from the moon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLyJ9FHDO-c&t=118s

54 years ago, technology was already more advanced than it is today :lukasLaugh:

The most hilarious part is when the astronauts who took part in the Apollo mission were given a conference afterwards.
From the start of the conference, they've had a cold look on their faces, like they're not happy to have been the first humans to go to the moon...
The moment when the journalist asks what it's like to go to the moon and sees their reactions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI_ZehPOMwI&t=3113s

Apollo Guidance Computer:
- 24000 transistors
- 1 MHz
- 4ko of RAM clocked at 85kHz
- 72kb ROM

PHILIPS ONEBLADE electric shaver
- 65000 transistors, i.e. almost 3x more complex
- 64 MHz, 64x faster
- 4kb of RAM at 64MHz, 752x faster
- 64kb ROM, equivalent program size

People who don't question the fact that we've managed to pilot a rocket with less computing power than is found in an electric razor.

SITUATION 1:
I call my aunt in Sicily: communication encounters difficulties

SITUATION 2:
Nixon calls an astronaut from a distance 5 times greater than this: the video call encounters no technical problems

- I've been to the Moon :bern:
- Oh, yeah? How did you do it? :battler:
- I don't know :bern:
- What do you mean you don't know? Didn't you keep any recordings? :ushilionemo:
- No, I lost them :bern:
- Did you lose the recordings of the greatest feat in the history of mankind? :battler:
- Yes :bern:
- OK... well, it doesn't matter, you must have brought back other evidence, right? :ushilionemo:
- Yes, here's a moon rock :bern:
- Wait a minute, your moon rock is made of wood, how come? :battler:
- I don't know :bern:
- well it doesn't matter, at worst you can do it again, can't you? :ushilionemo:
- No :bern:
- Why not? :battler:
- I don't know how to do it anymore, and it's expensive, and it's useless :bern:
- I see. Are you sure you've been to the Moon? :ushilionemo:
- What do you mean, are you sure? Do you doubt what I'm saying? :bern:
- Well, excuse me, but you're telling me something extraordinary, you've got no proof, you can't do it again, and you're known to have lied about a few important things in the past: Pearl Harbor, Tonkin Bay, Timisoara, the Kuwaiti incubators... :ushilionemo:

That's not nice. I've never received a ban, I don't know what you're talking about.

sorry but organic life can't survive beyond Low Earth Orbit... you're celebrating the 54th Anniversary of a Hollywood Production...:-)

had they really gone to The Moon in 1969, there'd be an Amusement Park up there by now...:-)
Funny how technology in 1969 was better than 2024.
Fun fact but NASA consumed 5 percent of the National budget just to go to the moon.
actually, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but we really have advanced quite far beyond the radio by now

the best NASA came up with in the early 70's was the 'Saturn V' Heavy Lift Rocket, which was literally the first thing that they outdid the Soviets on... but then they inexplicably abandoned... it's only in the last decade that Space X has picked up where they left off, who's "modern" designs owe alot to the 'Saturn V'... it was their first real win in The Cold War Space Race...:-)

if you wanted to communicate in a straight line... uninterrupted, straight through the empty vacuum of space... and a little bit of atmosphere... there was no better time. we have long since forgotten how to do that which is why all these satellites keep falling into my yard

NASA consumed 5 percent of the National Budget to create a Hollywood studio that depicted a few actors landing on a sheet of rock.

we know that it wasn't enough for research & development of a means to safely protect organic life from the dangers of the extreme radiation environment beyond Low Earth Orbit... we know this for they are still trying to solve this problem today...:-)
Welcome to the movies of the 1960s
Fun fact: Even the soviet union didn't dispute the fact that the moon landings happened.

Capricorn One (1977) Original Trailer [FHD]

starring Elliott Gould, James Brolin and O.J. Simpson

When the first manned flight to Mars is deemed unsafe and scrubbed on the launch pad, anxious authorities must scramble to save face and retain their funding - and so an unthinkable plot to fake the mission is hatched.

I always thought it was a fake landing on the moon movie and not mars
