Shigurui Death frenzy.
it's a dark and very violent and kind of rapey samurai amime.
It's like a horror movie.

It rules, get your kids who like Naruto to watch it.

That one is going in my "to be watched" list.
lol extra points for the Jericho reference.
demon slayer, you will feel depressed after watching that trash
Paradise Kiss from the same author as Nana? Otherwise due the mix of romance and kinda "depressing" / sad theme, the classic Clannad, with that being said Nana is kinda unique across the medium from what i've read.
If you get attached to the characters.. Steins;Gate shall be perfect.

I don't know what's Nana, so I can't recommend anything alike. I will add it to my list, watch it in the future just because you've piqued my curiosity.
Arguably Fruits Basket is depressing, at least for me.
Oh yeah, Perfect Blue.

This is a good movie, anime or otherwise and it's rough.

sounded cool until the rape part :(
might give it a watch tho
Gantz is one of the most feel bad anime I've ever watched. At the end of the last episode I felt like I had gained nothing. I had wasted my time, and all the suffering the protagonist endured made him worse off for it.

Re;Zero has the protagonist go through some awful stuff over and over again but at least he ends up better for it in the long run. There's a light at the end of the tunnel for him.

That was not the case in Gantz.

Wolf Rain
Gunslinger Girls
Gungrave
Patlabor 2nd Movie
JinRoh: Wolf Brigade
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal
About 1/3rd of Parallel Dual is set in a doomed timeline, and the ending is kind of dark.
Eureka Seven is mostly feeling bad

I stopped when she was dating that guy and crying all the time. Extremely mad she wouldn't just leave.
