Unreal Engine 5 will be 100% LGBTQ+ gender-free, inclusive, anti-toxism language
If you want to create a variable named “woman” or “man”, you'll be banned.

You want to write normally, add a string without inclusive language the system will detect it and you will be banned.

The scenario of your game includes a heterosexual couple, or no diversity, the mention of a gender, the slightest thing that may seem toxic you will be banned.

It's crazy to see the Unreal supporters on the ground in shock, peace be with them all for the time they wasted using Unreal...

It considers term like 'whitelist' and 'blacklist' as discriminatory language.

This is just word policing for the sake of word policing in code.

it's not actually true. OP is trying to get a rise out of people.

This is completely disinformation...

"Unreal Engine" is a game development engine. A programmer can create whatever they want on it, which could include multiple genders. There is no logical reason to limit that.

By default it has: male / female / others

You could customize that as desired via C++ code...

namespace dna
{
    enum Gender
    &123;
        male,
        female,
        other,
    &125;
}

You are also using an oxymoron claiming it's inclusive, but not that.

adding on to this.

EPIC doesn't have control over your own source code or naming conventions and doesn't give a crap about them. The guidelines are for EPIC to follow, internally, when writing code/comments. It has absolutely nothing to do with Indie devs or any devs using their engine.

I didn't fully understand the topic at first, but yes, it must just refer to their internal EPIC forums, etc... which is fair enough.

Everyone is free to think what they want, I'm just passing on the message, it's happening, a lot of people are talking about it on red, there are also youtube videos on the subject.

Personally, I don't use Unreal, so I don't care. I can understand why some people prefer to remain in denial.

Guess you didn't read the link?

If you don't trust the website, here's [dev.epicgames.com] Epic Games saying it themselves.

I'll never understand the idea that it's OK when some companies enforce irrational restrictions.

How are common terms like 'blacklist' and 'whitelist' anti-inclusive? How is using coding terms that include she/her or he/him anti-inclusive?

These are literally things only the developers will see.

I can bet money on that no one will stop using things like Blacklist, Whitelist, Master, and Slave.

Not a chance. It would be as hard to change as not saying Bug. To be frank, Epic are insane for believing this can change. Well, in the next 30 years at least. :P

Having multiple standards will only make things worse.

As an example, Microsoft doesn't want their devs to write "Dialog Box" but, last I checked, Google wants "Dialog Box" so now there's two standards on it and everyone gets confused instead when having to use one or the other outside individual projects and guidelines.
"Inclusivity" - so wonderful and popular that it has to be forced :steammocking:

This issue is how they say following those guidelines is mandatory but then give 'suggestions' about it.

This whole thing just screams that EGS consulted a grift firm which suggested these changes. Despite people literally being able to do this on their own volition without EGS holding an ax over their head.

At least I don't see a reason for Epic to use Blacklist and Whitelist as it's more of a thing for the actual games to have than the engine itself.
The only Blacklist I can think of is that, by default, Unreal Engine has Blacklisted the use of Try and Catch. But they can be enabled if needed.

Master and Slave isn't used as much anymore in general so I don't see it being used outside frindge cases.

In the end, I think most things will change naturally. Often by it not being used as the thing it's describing isn't being used anymore neither. :P
