A fight is a fight, if the other guy is stupid enough to spend time not protecting himself and instead going for his gun he will be knocked flat if the other person is not stunned themselves somehow. I do not use my fists for striking they are for grabbing and engaging, my elbows and knees are for the striking if it comes to it.
In most fights experience has made it so I do not need to go pow pow biff bop Batman style.

The person can develop a mentality that is confident in their ability and reasoning / strategy in those situations.
