It's hard, sugar-free, and full of nuts.
I wasn't wrong, didn't complain, and didn't get corrected. I simply asked you politely to stop trying to argue.
Most Americans were Anglo and from Europe as stated. Nothing you said disproved that. That's why Hispanics, Asians, and blacks have always been considered "minorities".
You're just an annoying average anime pfp no-life who wants to argue from the safety of a keyboard who I'll ignore from now on.
(kidding)
Pretty boring tbh.
I only ask of the rest of the world to please remember that a countries civilians are not accurately represented by their politicians or their political propaganda either for or against whatever extremities which plays out from those who are in a higher position of political power and authority. As civilians, we are just as much at the scrutiny of our politicians as any other countries civilians are.
As someone that studies cultural anthropology, this has historically been something that I have found to be true since the dawn of civilization itself. Civilians are subjected to and are at the scrutiny of the politicians and military forces of whichever country and timeline they happen to be born in and as we all know, nobody gets to choose where or in which conditions they are born into in this world and in this life.
Simply put, most of us civilians kind of just want to be left alone and live normal, peaceful lives.
1 ANOYINGLY polight..-> their way to be always polight and not be direct to a Dutch who is used to being direct comes over as hypocryte and being fake
2 Shallow -> americans are not known for good education often not knowing many things even 3yo will know here, and they also tend to care a lot more for what trendy or whats in and generally like gossip and gossip magazines/pages way to much
3 Not enjoying the moment -> Americans are way to often on their phone, or with their mind working off a checklist.. without actually able to fully enjoy the moment.. , when they spend the fortunes they do for a trip to europe, one would say they should more take the time to slow down and just really live.. lack of mindfullness they call that today but we noticed it before that word excisted.
4 Generally apreciate of my country : most americans who see my country agree it IS better than theirs and often desire to stay. many also do if they have that chance.
5 too demanding..
-> while we have better customer rights we won't go as out of our way for customers.
expect to be said well you can just leave if you complain about the wait for a service.
americans tend to not handle this well.. and all expect to be treated like they are the bloody queen.
6 law breakers
-> us dutch naturally are very compliant to laws, thats why for most things not a law excist social havits "how it should be done" are enough to keep everybody in line.
if you tell a person that "thats now how thats should be done" their reply will always be one of excusing themselves for being in the wrong and adaptiong.
likewise people (including those in compaghnies) won't put up a fuss the mere mention of a law (and those are stronger here) will make them comply.
=> americans have more a sue me mindset.. of calculating the cost and likelyness of being sued for breaking the law and the cost of them complying.. which to a Dutch is absolutely apalling..
but but you should do it cause thats how it SHOULD be done how can you not get that?/ I just dhowed you printed evidence that the law is on my side.. what you mean sue me?
7 More Gregarious.. while this is more true of those christian americans I usually meet who may be more southern or central region usa.. amercians are more likely to trust you, welcome you in your home and life invite you for a meal.. generally to give you a chance.. while we dutch keep way more to ourselves and need a lot more easing up before trust let alone food is given.
8 more materialistic :less true of those who moved here (after all they moved to here they are already of the part that value that part of usa less, they tell enough that american culture generally values things like work-free time balance, less and geenrally gets happier from stuf while for us Dutch it matters much less.. to us it IS the thought and love in a gift that count and we like to feel apreaciated at work.. for an american the material/monetairy compensation matters more. and those other values less
like how obessed you are with the price/size of a wedding ring and how weddings are used to show off.. we don't have that..
9 to selfabsorbed... it does not help you talk a lot but are not willing to truelly listen when you ask how do I do..
americans generally are bad in adapting to our native language Dutch when they arrive.. while our nation has many english speaking compagny's and university's and tourist guides.. when you live here you should assymilate to our culture and language within 6 months.. as any dutch that migrates does.
as Dutch speak perfect english we will talk english back to you but we silently judge you.. and not apreciate you not learning Dutch. just the fact you CAN survive in my nation with just english does not mean you should.
Dutch also generally seem to have more compassion for others (as shown in us giving far more to charity) than americans.. while we are slower to give people our trust.. we do give our compassion and our money (as we value money less so it's less of a loss than letting people come personally close)
to an american they can see a person drop dead in the middle of the road and not blink an eye.. "not my problem" they only care if they know that person.
for tourists it is extra noticible americans are self-absorbed as while we speak the best english of any non native english nation.. and have out of courtesy many information out there in english.. they still will complain about to many people speaking Dutch,or written in dutch or even when roadsigns are in km or bottles in liters..
hello you are in another nation adapt! we already cater to english speaker way more than any other nation would and still not satisfied?
10 less humor / not getting sarcasm..
-us Dutch use satire a lot. we also love stereotypes.
americans tend to be offended by basicly any of that.
**cultural contamination from usa does make some here in netherlands behave the same.. such movements always start in usa and than blow ofer to here..
leading to much of the fun aalready be ruined by legeslation..
still many dutch won't be silenced and will just tell you a joke about any group imaginable and laugh.. we also laugh if you tell one about us..
american human is more often about making faces and noices.. which to us comes over as "childish" and "immature"
we also can say things like killing or shooting people without anybody taking offense as nobody would expect us to actually want or do such things any dutch person will know that thats just an expression.
americans.. will responce quite shocked to that as they take such things way to litteral..
whhich is ironic for in general
11 less filthy..
-as a christian and a supporter of traditional values I find me opposing many of the policies my nation has often been the leader in.. the netherlands always had two faces... one that was basicly the wild amsterdam.. and trade the other hypercalvinsim and conformatism.
as that latter faction has gotten smaller and the country changed it's laws and habits as a result.. I feel ever less alighned with my countryman..
when I meet americans, they usually have far more conservative vieuws as still a larger percentage of your population is christian.. even your progressives are less "off the right path" as our general population.
thats a bit in general how american people I actually met over the years came over to me.
For example (I’m from California) we say “imma”, “hella”, and “yous”.
Jamestown and Plymouth were the two earliest successful colonies.
One was founded as a commercial venture, the other by religious fanatics. Both major elements of American character, it may be said.
