How bad is/was the dress code at your school?

I ask this because I was dress coded yesterday for the dumbest thing. They said my skirt was too short and my thighs were exposed (the skirt ended just above my knees). I decided not to make a big deal of it but then they refused to dress code a guy (who is cisgender, he's just a femboy) for wearing a crop top that was so small that it was basically a sport bra. When I asked the vice principal about that, he said that the other guy was "just expressing himself". Is that legal or was something else at play here?

We had a school uniform back in my school days.
At work we are provided a company shirt, jacket, and hat if you want it but wearing them at the office isn't enforced, I wore jeans and a hoodie to the office before.
though we would be encouraged to wear the work clothing to events and stuff.

Our high school had a bit of an outcast reputation, so the dress code was pretty simple... "just wear clothes." This was back in the 90s, so a lot of the girls showed up dressed like Fly Girls, nerds, tomboys (oh :sumeru: those tomboys!), etc. while the guys dressed in t-shirts, jeans, shorts, the usual stuff.

There was this one guy (Scottish descent), towards the end of my senior year, who decided to show up for class wearing a kilt. He got written up for violating dress code policy because our principal was adamant that "boys don't wear dresses." The guy then got suspended and referred to the School Board for expulsion.

So a week later, the entire school held a "Be a Man, Wear a Dress Day" to protest our principal's sheer stupidity of trying to expel a Scottish boy for wearing what Scottish boys normally wear. This made the local newspapers, which pushed the School Board to decide against expulsion and forced our principal to hide in his office for the rest of the year.

Idk where you got the notion that "cisgender" is a slur. As far as I know, it just means your gender identity matches your sex at birth such as someone who is born male and identifies as male. It's simply just the inverse of transgender.

Went to high school in the 80's, so there really wasn't any big deal about 'dress codes'. Public schools, you just couldn't wear shirts with rude crap on them, private schools had uniforms.

Of course, this was also before metal detectors and security guards/"resource officers". School staff could still touch fighting kids without getting sued by Karen or accused of assault.

edit: thinking about it, The Breakfast Club cast is a good approximation of general clique outfits in my school. It's missing "average kid", of course.

And well, then you have the Japan dress code on schools which is even more silly, where they do not even allow ponytails or dying your hair becuase "is too attractive for males"

You even have to prove on japanese schools (in case your hair is naturally curly or not black) that your curly hair is natural...

It was all pretty relaxed, unless you had a shirt that you knew you were toeing or crossing the line by wearing. I know some of the gals got in trouble for skirt length but even that was much better than alot of places i heard. The fashion at the time was everyone wearing jeans anyways.

The boys had to wear collared shirts and khaki pants or shorts.

The girls was a bit more strict to be honest, I don't remember the details since it didn't apply to me.

The things that applied to everyone was: no see through materials, no fishnet materials, no logos on the clothes, a few other things IDR.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiots, I hope they all die. For some reason, guys had to wear long pants at over 35 degrees Celsius (nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit) because that's apparently "polite" or something, even if shorts are still long enough to covery our knees. Stupid sick ♥♥♥♥♥. If you show up in such shorts, the fascist ♥♥♥♥♥ scream at you and kick you out as if you killed someone. Degenerates. I live in Croatia and it's still like this.

We had to wear school uniforms for a few years in primary. Fortunately they consisted of a t-shirt and a vest with the school logo plastered on both and did not last very long. Your sitch is definitely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.
