How bad is/was the dress code at your school?
I ask this because I was dress coded yesterday for the dumbest thing. They said my skirt was too short and my thighs were exposed (the skirt ended just above my knees). I decided not to make a big deal of it but then they refused to dress code a guy (who is cisgender, he's just a femboy) for wearing a crop top that was so small that it was basically a sport bra. When I asked the vice principal about that, he said that the other guy was "just expressing himself". Is that legal or was something else at play here?

noo. ok i need to vent. i used to wear thigh highs and skirts to school too, and nobdy cared. now i look back and feel awkward.

but also, girls literally wore bras in the hallways? im sorry but thats a bit too far for me. im all for empowerment and freedom to express urself but thats actual underwar TOT.

i guess you could also make the argument thigh highs are sexual... but i dont like that. dont have the intent of wearing them for sexual attention or purpose. just like them for aesthetics.

im unsure ,myself.
Thigh highs are cool when combined with a skirt and crop top. It's my favorite outfit and I'll occasionally braid my hair too
yes pig tail braids

i also like thigh highs with shorts ;u

idk about crop tops i feel weird with my waist out, but i do like tight fitting shirt or oversized hoodie combo

you also weren't allowed to show up with no bra.
Did it matter where you wore it?

A bra? Do you mean a croptop?

Well, if you like wear that, then just wear it... 🤷‍♀️

Why should you care if others consider it 🥵🥵?
No dress code as far as I know. We wore beer ad T shirts, shirts with double entendre slogans like HORSE SHIrT, one year half the senior class wore shirts that read "Go to Hell World, I'm a Senior!".

Only dress code event I can remember was when a guy wore a shirt with a cartoon character flipping the bird. He was told to turn it inside out.

We didn't have a dress code. I actually walked around with a mohawk and an army jacket for a while, anarchy sign spray painted on my back. Eventually figured out all the hairspray was ruining my hair, so I grew it out. Kept it like that ever since. Now I'm an undercover punk posing as a hippy. A really angry hippy.
Back in my time, we didn't have "dress codes" at school.

How old are you, if I may ask?
Private school, we had uniforms.

It was however reasonable as there were kids that dressed terribly and was given warnings i.e. dreadlocks, torn shirts, etc. Anything minor didn't have much care factor.
1 in every 5 Gen Z identify as gay. A male wearing a crop top is not heterosexual. That dude is gay. Not sure why you feel the need to call them cis gender tbh. That is a gay man... :conwayshrug:

Didn't have one. Just don't be naked. I recall some kids wore these Big Johnson[www.bigjohnson.com] t-shirts which would probably get someone suspended today. Nobody batted an eye. (Mid-late 1990s.)

I also went to público school but there are some public schools with dress code v:
School uniforms have been mandatory in Australia for as long as I've been around.

In public schools, I assume it has something to do with blending all the socioeconomic classes together and making class divides less obvious. Though someone with perception and attentiveness could still work it out without much trouble. A clean, tidy uniform that is washed daily along with proper body hygiene goes a long way, something I still always maintain.

Private schools still have their overtly pretentious uniforms primarily for the image it creates, advertising the wealth of the school and its students. Some of these schools would even discipline students for activity and conduct performed outside of school hours if they remained in uniform, as these wealthy schools are very militant about protecting their image.

Having been to both, I think the public school uniforms were much more comfortable, wearing pants, a polo shirt and a zip-up jacket was much better, especially in summer. The private school uniforms are horrendous in summer.
Never enforced, as far as I know. Maybe some people had to put masking tape over a questionable t-shirt slogan for the day.

Never any controversy over natural hair/textured hair/ethnic hair/whatever the proper term is.
