You prefer 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shift?
I was discussing with my mom about the different types of jobs in nursing. My mom jokingly said that she has some friends who work in telehealth nursing and say they have no life because they WFH but are doing call appointments 8 hours a day. Ofc, respect to telehealth nurses as well as all other nursing jobs but I don't think I would want to stay on a computer 8 hours a day everyday. Especially since I like to do 3 hour videogame sessions.

Also, I do know some people prefer 8 hours shifts but work on a computer rather than work 12 hours shift but do something physically tasking. I can understand this.

I rather ask myself why the working hours weren´t reduced further the last 50 years, like it was before. Like 12h shift is 50´s. 2 shifts. Then three shift for 8 hours. Why no 4 shifts for 6 hours as the next logical step? More jobs and all. Ah, wait. Less profits for some people. That was it.
I have worked all stupid hours from 12 hours, 10 hours, 8 hours, 6 hours, nights, late's, early's and working 12 hours is far to long for any person. I prefer 10 hours over 4 days personally and I also prefer having 3 days off during the week and working weekends (its just me)
Also - if it of wasn´t about certain exceptions, it´s against the law to work more than 10 h per day here, so the question doesn´t really apply.
8 hours

except if you mean like 12 h by day for 3 days by week

or if your point are we willing to work more to get more money ???

i suppose it depend which lifestyle you want

normal life vs being slave and get more money

in my country not so much people are happy to korean lifestyle
When I worked in QC I was on 10 hours, 4 days a week. That was ok, the day was pretty long but the three day weekends made up for it. I was working 12:30 - 22:30, which was alright, as I'm an evening person.

But then they got rid of the night shift to try to save money. A lot of production happened during the night shift to back fill for filling the next day (filling is faster than production), so they started producing a lot less.

They decided to make up for this wither permanent optional (but not really) over time. So I was working 12:30 - 02:30 four days a week. When you work 14 hours a day, there's no time for anything else. Anything else you want to do cuts into sleeping time. It's literally get up, go to work, get home, sleep. For four days.

Fortunately that came to a stop when the night shift was reinstated, and now I don't work in QC anymore. Now I work 8 hours, no over time, no weekends. I don't have any staff of my own so I can basically come and go as I please. I'm never late because I don't need to be at work at any particular time
i like where I'm at, which is a lot of free time, but involves being on the clock 24/7.

you get hours of nothing, but when you actually do have to work, you have to do it then and now, regardless of what else you were doing.

I guess that would suck if you had a social life, but I don't, so I'm good.
The only trade off I see is if the extra hours count for a day off or extra pay. I suppose it comes down to one's priorities.
8 hours is not a long shift in the health care industry; not in USA anyway.
I did 16 hour shifts 6 days a week for a couple of months when I was an apprentice. That was too much, but the money was good.
I wanna work 40 hours in 1 day so I’ll have 6 days off.

I'm sure Hermione Granger will loan you her Time Turner.
12 h in 1 day??!! That is literaly impossible... No human these days can stand such thing :steambored:

Is literaly impossible to keep productivity if you work 12 h on each work day... It becomes a nightmare after the 6th hour knowing you still have to be 6 h more...

Also that those 12 h do not count the time going to your work place and going back home, making it even worse... :steambored:

Even if 12 h/day meant working 4 days instead of 5, the sacrifice is not worthy specially that now some countries start to reduce the classic 40 h/week work to 37,5 h or less... :V

What kind of shift pattern are we talking about here?

For example 12 hours shift could be 4 days work 4 days off while you get paid like 40 hours?

When it come to 12 hours shift it kind of weird because not every place is same, you could be working weird amount of days, it can be 2/2, 4/4, 5/2. 3/3... can't think of anything else.

When it comes it 8 hours shift it only has one shift patters and it from Monday until Friday.

12 hours shift could be over all better than 8 hours because you get more days off for example you work 4 days and get 4 days off while on 8 hours shift you get only 2 days off while having more time for yourself after work

12x4=48 not 40... So you get 8 h unpaid? 🤨
I was supposed to do 8 hours shift 6 days a week, but now it got reduced to 3 days a week, until I finish my diploma.
