Do you have a dislike of philosophers?
Often times they seem to be grifters, speaking pseudo science. While people praise them for being so deep and wise.

They may pull up personal stories as reason why they are right. Or say common sense or matter of fact is right. They may preach of nature, and the benefits of willful ignorance. The inherent good or godness of people, despite all that humanity has done.

Some will tell you feel good stories, so that you'll want to hear more, as the audiences of their day paid them money. Some to us, seem to be Royal Jesters that know poetry, and story telling.

They can paint you a picture of the world you'd want to be in, or how you are already perfect the way you are.

I would call some philosophers, Pop music, lacking substance, but it sure sound good, until you stop and think for a moment about the non-sense of the lyrics.

What your opinion on philosophers, specially more modern ones?

I never knew that dictatorship was a form of critical thinking LOL. Distraction to our own ideas is philosophy, it is the open ended reasonable discussion of opposition. But then again who is the one losing composure, by expressing their own flavor of autocracy? :)))

Ooh an ad hominem comment, talking about "my composure". LMAO. Your line of thinking is riddled with fallacies my dude. I think we are done talking here.

LOL yep cant handle the heat, get out of the kitchen :))

Sure sure. Everyone can see you're just dodging the issue. And now you claim a win? Holy dunning-kruger, Batman! I can provide arguments. I can't provide insight.

Someone told us once, that if you want to work you become a scientist. If you don't want to work you become a philosopher.
Philosophy is more about freedom and critical thinking than making a job out of it.

I don't claim anything, as philosophy is not about who is right or wrong. But whether we are open minded enough as reasonable thinkers to maybe just maybe learn something new.

Let me ask you this. What is your own interpretation of philosophy?

Just interjecting levity:

While I can understand what material arguments are being made on this page of this thread, I don't know wtf you guys are really arguing about... :)

And, that is exactly what happens even in more rigorous philosophical arguments online - Most of the posts are arguments attacking the arguments and counter-attacks of arguments... with the original topic lying where it was left, somewhere fifty-eleven pages ago. :)

Anyway, have a great argument, guys! (It's still entertaining... like walking into the middle of an action film. Literally... not in the theater, but right in the middle of the battle where all the bullets are still flying around. /ducks)
before kantian metaphysics the church was the arbiter of philosophy, as it colored people's perceptions of reality in the same way in which the church sought to do.

after kantian metaphysics the church's efforts moved into academia, as arbiters of critical thought.

on human bondage presents an intentionally-flawed perspective on these scenarios, which the church swalloed whole and now bears the brunt of enforcing.

as such the majority of post-kantian work is strictly metaphysical in nature, by design as extensions of church power, and the church's attempts to shift into academic thought are alienating their initial assumptions and casting themselves as oppressors.

it is only by denying history that this structure is maintained, and the bulk of modern work focuses on denying history and problematizing known information. they have no other means by which to puruse their mandate.

LMAO what a joke. That's only the case for non-philosophers, tourists in the house of philosophy. The moment you develop your own opinion and start defining your own position, you implicitly defined the opposition too. That's why so much of philosophy is about attacking the other side and defending against claims made by philosophers who are proponents of opposing systems. If you claim an idealist position, then the realists automatically have an opposite view. If you're a sceptic, the dogmatists become intellectual opponents, and so on. That's philosophy for you. As my colleagues, I'm perfectly willing to defend their right to be wrong, but in the intellectual arena of philosophy, they are my prey.

LOL even though it sounds intelligent & makes a little sense when viewed from pessimistic eyes. Trying to understand something or somebody that is not yet understood is the pursuit of empathy. And for that we need wisdom & for the love of wisdom, is philosophy.

Well, prof boy claimed the following: "FOR THE LOVE OF WISDOM, could basically be any opinion with any rational reason, not yet proven or disproven by any conventional scientific method."
I'm going off on the "not yet proven or disproven by any conventional scientific method" bit and having a bit of fun with it. Glad you're entertained. That's one of the purposes of public debate, after all.

Yeah you know what, lets just end on amiable terms and agree to disagree on this matter. Also please don't take our little discussion here too personally. I just happen to have a fairly antagonistic style of debating which sometimes makes me come off as hostile on a personal level. I can assure you, I'm not. Have a nice day~

"White people" ?

Care to elaborate that racist blanket statement?

you've gone cross-eyed from being punched in the head too many times.

I will spell the word in all caps for your benefit

most just assume I'm an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and that my indifference towards people comes from a lack of respect for their personhood.

it's the only form of indifference they've ever experienced, so they assume it's the only kind that exists.

then they act like jerks.

I thought we were having fun & providing entertainment for others :) but ok for the sake of peace, lets stop. Perhaps we can debate things with respect & dignity on other topics. No hard feelings here either, stay safe & take care.
